Hi All

Would appreciate some thoughts.

We have a Q4 on order, and after having once owned a black ED30 GTI vowed never to own another black car, but my wife insisted!

It’ll be ceramic coated by a very respected detailer, but I think I’m going to have to add a jet wash to my arsenal. Currently just two bucket, but being black i guess I should try not to contact the paintwork too much?! Also the wheels are quite an intricate pattern.

I guess I’ve kept away from jet washing due ready reports of damaged paintwork and I’m also concerned about degrading the ceramic coating quicker, although I guess that’s unlikely.

Any thoughts appreciated.

Cheers

Had a black car & im not a cleaning enthusiast..
I always got great finish from a normal car wash, then Demon Shine before it was dry https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/CarPlan-Demon-Spray-On-...

The only thing that worked on a hot day also

Absolutely nothing wrong with using a pressure washer, infact I 100% recommend one.

Nilfisk or Karcher would be a good starting point.

You want to remove as much dirt from the paint as possible before contact washing so a coating safe pre-wash followed by a pressure rinse down is ideal.

A pressure washer won't affect the durability of the coating.

As above, a decent pre-wash to loosen as much dirt and frime as possible before jetting and then hand washing will be your best option.

Consider a foam lance and some pre-wash through it to help.

Worth spending out on something a bit better than the typical domestic washers.
Its flow rate thats important not quoted pressure, with a high flow rate you can run the lance jet at its widest angle with lower (adjustable) pressure which lessens the chances of damage whilst giving good cleaning power, you'll still need some agitation to whatever cleaning product you use for best results.

Suggest looking at Kranzle pressure washers as a starting point (you'll find these at detailer's), you'll be north of £500 possibly twice that but with a product that will last years with full spares back up and be a pleasure to use.
Enough water flow for drain jetting, roof gutter and driveway cleaning too.

That is the worst thing about a black car. Every little spot or mark is noticeable. I would say it is a good idea to get a jet washer and use it to loosen the dirt before hand washing it.

I always start with a pressure rinse to remove as much of the loose dirt and grit possible.
Snow foam is a bit marmite but does help slightly and is cheap enough to plaster it on, bilt hamber touch less is supposed to be very good.
