The 1st pre-season test is held next week, so I thought we could use a thread to keep an eye on it. I believe times will be published at the end of the day, but as journalists will be present there should be plenty of information about.

A few teams are saying that the cars will be faster than last year, so early testing pace will be interesting. I don't suppose we'll get any definitive answers as to who's hot and who's in trouble, but you do tend to have an idea by the end of testing. The last F1 test in Barcelona was 2020, and I've put the times and laps data below for interest.

It's a shame there's no official coverage, but hopefully Sky will have some cameras around the track.

Good to see some variation in the cars we've seen so far, will be interesting to see who's got the new rules right.

Only 4 weeks until the first race party

Pleased to see that on each day of testing, Sky have a 30-minute testing highlights show at 8pm, followed by 30 minutes of Ted’s Notebook.

My understanding is we should have text updates live previous years hopefully? Can never really watch testing due to work but always liked following the live text updates

30 mins of sky roundup and 30 mins of ted repeating the same things in a columbo style is about as much as it can sustain.
If they were on for 8hrs a day you wouldn't learn anything more.
They can fine tune it a bit by not saying sandbagging every other second. So karen should stay home.

I'm really excited by testing this year and hope we get some sort of view from a semi-closed Barcelona. I'm not too bothered about times but would be good to see who's approach is working, who's bringing changes and roughly seeing if the new rules have shaken the order up a bit.

official 'shakedown' (pre season testing..) starts tomorrow. Very much looking forward to hearing early observations from Ted and to see the world of F1 start to wake up again ready for this new season smile

Does anyone have any recollection of pre-season testing observations which either did or did not turn out to be accurate in previous seasons?

For example, it was fairly obvious that Williams were in trouble the year they couldn't even get the car out on the track, while Ferrari often seem to turn up with some impressive lap times only to be a bit average once the season begins.

Tsunoda last year appearing to be quite quick if you looked at the time sheets, and we know how that turned out.

Ligier/Prost back in the day were the gold standard at this.

He did show a bit of promise in the first few races if I'm remembering correctly too, but regressed quite a bit once the season wore on. Seems like a bit of a whinger IMO.

I seem to remember Alfa Romeo/Sauber showed great promise which came to very little.
I was really hoping to see Kimi do well last year......
