Just heard from a source at Heathrow that BA have cancelled ALL shorthaul flights today to protect longhaul services.
I guess letting 4000 people go has bit them in the arse.
Not saying they had a choice, obviously

It's difficult to see how cancelling short haul would protect long haul if staff shortages are the issue.

Is your source the live departures board? Looks more like they're cancelling UK domestic flights out of LHR.

They've been struggling with baggage claims all yesterday and today with long, long delays, so wonder if there's a backlog there that they have to clear to make some space?

No, I have a person I follow on Facebook and Twitter who feeds intel about flights to spotters.
He’s always been spot on in my experience

Twitter is rife with reports of people being told to go home after 3+ hour waits for luggage that hasn't turned up at baggage claim

..and by turned up, meaning it's been offloaded, but they can't process.

One woman had tweeted a pic of her luggage off the plane, sat in the trolleys by the plane in the rain for 2 hours - can't find it now though frown

Yep my daughter landed from the US at noon, had to wait over 3 hours but at least got her bag. Son in law had his Aberdeen to London flight this evening cancelled - luckily he was able to nab a seat to Luton on EJ.

Very poor... probably time the CAA called them in for a bit of a chat.
Every other airline seems capable of managing baggage - why can’t BA.

BBC reporting BA have cancelled all short haul flights today until midday from LHR. What on Earth is going on? As someone else said above, every other airline can manage passenger baggage and their IT systems, why not BA?

It’s embarrassing that they claim to be our “flag carrier”, you get a far better service with other UK airlines IMO.

They’d hardly admit it would they.

From a good friend who is in the right department:

"Dodgy hardware. Network switch/load balancer failure...or intermittent failure. Failover to BOHO....and on Friday night that started to fail as well."

They're moving over to AWS servers but it ain't happening quickly enough.

Although "boo hoo" might have been appropriate too.
