head unit connections

Pulled the tape/radio head unit out of the car on Sunday. Seems to have two offset sets of pins with the radio aerial connector alongside (will put a picture up later).

I think the head unit was the original in the car from the factory.

Can you get adaptors that fit this or is it a bespoke job?

It vaguely rings a bell from my ICE days, probably easier just to identify the wires then chop it off.
I doubt you'll find an adapter, but you never know...

Not seen that before.
I would pop to halfrauds get a universal one and do as Wedgie says, identify and chop then attach to new bit that should then plug into most modern head units

You also seem to have very few connections on that item in picture

Normally
2 live - red / yellow
1 earth - black
aerial power - blue
4 pairs of speaker wires - grey, green, + 2 others !
1 mute wire for phone

Possible extra for amps but not really neccesisary

Depends on the amplifier configuration; a lot of sets ran 4 speakers from 6 wires.
If it is an old set it probably doesn't have phone mute. Could have a backlight feed wired to sidelights.

The new head unit has a yellow cable, their isn't a yellow cable inside the car.

Does the yellow wire need connecting? If so can it be connected to the red/brown wire inside the car?

Looking on the internet, yellow seems to be a ignition lead?

Normally the yellow cable is for either a permanent live or switched live (your set should say which it needs)
Then use a multimeter to find the equivalent on the car.
In the worst case you could have one + from the car feeding the yellow and red, but run the risk of leaving the radio on permantly if you forget to switch off ! (unless you can find a switched + then you lose all the memory of tuned stations each time you power the unit )

If no radio (or anything else!) , try your battery to engine/gearbox earth.
