R.I.P. - Jamal Edwards M.B.E.
Discussion
Sad to hear of the passing of Jamal, gone far too young at 31 and had so much more to offer.
Massive influence in the UK music scene, especially rap & grime. Helped launch the careers of artists like Dave, Stormzy, Ed Sheeran and Skepta through his Youtube channel SBTV. Also an ambassador for the Princes Trust, raised awareness of mental health issues, funded youth centres but yet he was a shy, humble young man.

Allontheboard response was good. Never heard of him, but when you look to see how influential he was in so much music we all love...

Age 31, so overdose/suicide are the immediate questions. He was an advocate for mental health charities, although I don't recall him saying he had issues, but that he knew other men who had mental health/had killed themselves.
Hopefully not, and an unexpected and unavoidable health issue.

Short term illness according to Sky news.
Didn't really know him, but appears to have done a lot for music so will likely be missed and a sad loss.
Sudden rather than short illness...Didn't really know him, but appears to have done a lot for music so will likely be missed and a sad loss.
"It is with the deepest heartache that I confirm that my beautiful son Jamal Edwards passed away yesterday morning after a sudden illness.
Given his age, and considering when he first launched SBTV; there can't be many more influential to the UK rap / urban scene. For me, it won't be the big names he launched; but the platform for lesser known acts. First heard Potty Payper on SBTV and a host of other acts - which is as important as launching the odd mega star. A real shame.

At his age and, given his previous night’s employment, I’d be looking at cocaine as the cause here. I could be wrong, but it’s the most plausible cause of such a ‘sudden illness’
My first instinct - I hope I'm wrong, it will certainly stain perception of him. He appears to be held in very high regard and tributes are flooding in. RIP.PurpleTurtle said:

He was 17 iirc.
Of course it could be drug-related, it could be suicide. But rather than jump to conclusions and besmirch the reputation of someone who achieved more in 31 years than most of us will in a lifetime, perhaps we should wait for the coroner's view.
RIP Jamal.
A while back Loose Women was on the TV in the background and god knows why I started to listen to it. Jamal was on having an interview and he came across as a really switched on bloke and I just wanted to sit down and hear what he had to say, really engaging and very clever.
Every so often you see people that you just want to listen to and could imagine getting on with (perhaps that's just me!)
Jamal was one of them. The music he promoted is not really my bag, but that is beside the point.
A sad day indeed.

No it's not, there could be many different causes. When a neurologist sat me down and told me that I have got a higher chance of sudden death syndrome for irrelevent reasons here I would hope that is not the reaction if the worst should happen to me.BabySharkDooDooDooDooDooDoo said:
I was going to say, I thought "short illness" normally means heart attack, just as "long illness" normally means cancer.sir humphrey appleby said:

The very first question the registrar asked me in A&E after the blood test confirmed it was, [i["I'm really sorry to ask you this, but have you taken any cocaine recently?"[/i] I'd had nothing stronger than a cream scone. That's possibly my cause ,,,
I was readmitted two weeks later as I had a bad reaction to Warfarin that they put me on, it didn't sit well with some other long-term meds I am on, Whilst sat in the A&E triage area a bloke about 30 came in, heart attack. Cocaine. A few weeks later my guitar teacher (age 28) had a heart attack, Cocaine.
It is happening a lot more amongst the young, due to the increased use thereof.
