... and that for a 35 year old car. It's even older than me, heck, doesn't Ford come up with something better ?

Edited because I would like to have one, though.

Actually, it's all new in terms of mechanicals... just the shape has been copied from the old one. It's actually longer, taller and wider... technically a GT43.5

I don't see anything wrong with them making 3 next year, at least production will start a year later. I don't think this is a problem, unlike Jaguar not making the F-Type (although, since they would've ruined the production version from the superb prototype maybe that's a good thing too.)

I see no reason why Ford should resurect such a classic car, particularly if it has performance to match.

Personally I wouldn't buy one as I would allways see it as a poor substitute for an original car, but that's just me.

As an exercise in making a great car, I like it ? We don't require a "new" supercar from Ford, as there are plenty out there already, but for some people maybe this brings the dream a bit closer....

3 of those things is 3 too many.
Where's the imagination? Where's the daring? What's going to happen when car makers start acting like record companies by re-issuing their greatest hits with new voices? Don't you think 'the kids' of tomorrow are going to start feeling a little short- changed when their dreams and aspirations are the same as those of their Grandads' and the whole world chases its own tail to the point of ending up striking matches from within the murky gloom of its own arse?
Pathetic is right. End of rant.

Furry muff. Enough people at the Detroit liked them though... Ford got several confirmed orders and deposits - REGARDLESS of price.

Considering the company is going through a rough spot at the moment, it makes perfect sense to me to produce a vehicle that people want to buy... and I'm afraid Castex, people seem to want the "new" GT40...

I share some of Castex's opinions, but I don't agree that they *shouldn't* build it.

AFAI'mC the GT40 is one of my dream cars, and knowing that it won't ever be possible to buy the genuine article, the idea a *new* one is about to reach us is pretty much rejoicing: the *dream* some mentioned is indeed getting closer to the *real* world...

(that said I'd rather have a fine replica...)

First, who the hell would buy it considering the fact that it is made by an economy car manufacturer?

Next, even if it did end up being a decent car on the inside... where the hell would you get it serviced? I think it is obvious that you couldn't trust the technicians at a Ford dealership with anything that was worth more than $5,000.

So the world's second largest automotive manufacturer is an "economy" manufacturer? Interesting perspective... define "economy" though...

That statement is almost libelous. Any service is only as good as the individuals running it; one dealership can be better than another - even under the same branding. Bear in mind that dealers are rarely owned by the company in question, and are indeed franchises.

Out of curiosity, what do you drive? - and how have you found the service?

In keeping with Ted's policy of not naming or shaming, I shall just say this (and it ties in with viperman's O/T comment about my car - thanks BTW!);

The S2000 is not exactly an exotic, but is substantially different to the run of the mill Honda to warrant special attention. There are about 10 Honda dealerships in the UK which are trusted by S2000 owners to deal with their cars - coincidentally all of them have NSX trained technicians.
The rest? Well a couple of simple questions to the service manager about the differences between the S2000 and say the Civic will tell you all you need to know....

I can't see Ford dealerships being much different, can you?

damn. I want one. the car was set out to be an update of the classic, and so it is. There were "modern" versions of the GT40 thought up, but they got canned. They decided to keep the lines almost the same but build a better car underneath. I've heard the gt40s were pigs to drive, at least the road-legal ones (not race-ready MkI's, which are probably the ones we all salivate over)
