The WTF, how can that happen? Rant.
Discussion
Mods might, erm prob have an issue with the title...Sorry. But it's true.
Had a quick look, but is there a thread for that point when you get an evil failure of a component when DIYing?
Pal took his Tiguan round to mine to fit new front discs and pads. Easy job yes? No !
I do my brakes on all my cars, have done for years. Bolts, torque settings, copper grease etc etc, So......
TLDR/
Pagid, thanks for the bad ( new - brand new!!) bolt that shears off when tightening to mere 30nm.......
Did the front offside pads and discs, no bother.
Move to the nearside. I did the offside then let my pal do the near. All good. All done up to the last calliper guide pin bolt to tighten up.
" Eh chuck, this doesn't feel right"
Cue let me have a shot... yup that's wrong. Unscrew the caliper and find low and belhold the brand new bolt supplied by Pagid has sheared right off into the guide pin... b
ks.
Que 3 hours lost, including phone call to local Volks dealer ( we don't supply guide pins, you will have buy the calliper - £250 plus VAT).
Trip local breakers yard. Got as 2016 ish VW Tiguan on site? No.
Down to my local VW indi who I have used for years. Brave effort trying to help us but no luck.
Last effort ( I don't have a vice ) is down to another mutual pal who does have a vice, My broken bolt/screw removal tool and Brian's vice save the day.

f
king Pagid!!!
Learning points/ Tips?
Go straight to the removal tool? In Hindsight , yeh.
Trust Pagid? Yeh, their track pads are epic. I know.
Bad batch of bolts? Possible. I think as we found out.
Anything else?
Like a rant - Yes. ( sorry)
Your turn...

I would imagine, like others, Paget source the bolts directly from China or India.
The company I work for did at one stage, we used to get bolts that were unthreaded,so poor was the Quality Control!
I bought Brembo discs and pads a few years ago, (from ECP), so badly manufactured, I took them back for a refund.
Big names, chucked out on the cheap these days. Lots of companies at it.

Pagid have been a ECP brand for some time now, and are as dire as you would expect.
Why people use ECP is beyond me - cultivate a relationship with your local motor factors. Buy Apec, Allied Nippon, Brake fit, Juratec. These are what the trade use, and very rarely a problem.
Brake Fit in particular are superb brakes and very very cheap. But of course, no-one outside the trade would give them a second look.
