I know external hard drives can improve how games run on Xbox One - would a USB 3.0 flash drive work as well?

I’m thinking a 1TB flash drive because it’s physically tiny and easy to just plug in.

Or am I an idiot?

I have SSDs connected to all our XBOXs (3 x Ones, 1 x S and an X - don't ask why we have so many!) and all work fine. As they plug into the USB ports I don't see why a stick would be different?

Son has one of these attached to his Xbox One - cost £90 for 4tb.

He's got something similar for his PS5 and I've got the same for PS4. Cheap as chips and is a must for any console.

>>>Very stupid question warning<<<

I need to install the game onto the drive, rather than play from the disk, right?

I'm not sure flash drives work, I think they need to be external HDDs / SSDs. I could be wrong..

As for storage the Xbox will work it all out for you, but you'll still need to insert the disc to play the games.

Once you've connected the drive, it then sets it as the install location by default. You install / download the games to your new massive HDD but yeah, you still need to put the disk in the console to play the game.

It's actually really easy to do.smile

Or twice the size, for 30% more? This is the one I have wink

Of course, an external SSD (rather than a flash drive) would also be fine...and faster (500MB/s)..but will be a lot more expensive. A flash drive might not be any quicker than a HD (about 100-15MB/s).

I have a 1tb Seagate SSD plugged into my SX. It was £200 but so worth it. Probably compatible with an Xbox One.

What slot on an Xbox One would that go into? The Xbox One doesn't have a high-speed port specifically for that type of expansion.

Possibly not compatible then!
