Only ask as been offered some Michelin Pilot sport tyres 245/40ZR18 for incredibly cheap price... but my car should run 235/40ZR18s...

So, would these be OK on the back? or would that hurt the diff?

Otherwise, just gonna stick with as recommend!

Cheers

I have been running on 245 section for a while.

No negative experiences outside increased cost, on the plus, helps protect the rim very well.

I did it for the rims alone!

It will throw the speedo out by a few mph, so you will be faster than indicated, can be recalibrated traders that post on these forums.

I have no problems, but note I have a 4 door, I doubt if it will be a problem though

Thanks again...

After doing a bit of research found out the VXR runs a 245 tyre on the 19inch rim, so im guessing all should be OK....

For now will just purchase x2, will have a quick experiment on front to check they dont catch, but they can live on the rear after that...

Going to a 245 tyre will increase the gearing by just 1.24%, so irrelevant really.

Well, buying the tyres this week, gonna fit next monday after santa pod

So, back to this tyre size, if i was to look at a 245, would it be a 245/40/18, or 245/45/18... think theres a depth to height ration is there not??

Thanks guys,

Mike

Michelin Pilot Sport give tremedous mileage but I would not use again. Very poor in the wet.Spin off quite easily.Whatdo you want? mileage or grip.I would go for grip every time.It was mentioned earlier thread that a road test with a Monaro on 5 different sets tyres and these tyres were low down the list.Autocar 19th October 2004.

We just fitted 255/40x18 Bridgestones to the rear of mates new Monaro. Fit fine as expected.

Might up the fronts to 245's. Purely for appearances. The 235's just look too narrow for the rims.

Speaking of which...

Anyone got a spare pair of 18" CV8 5 spokes for sale ?

I'd have thought the x18 bit would give it away ;-)

245's feel too wide for the front on the VXR.. i know they are OEM and they are fine but when pushing the car about at high speed on the twisty's, the front feel's (to nick a Wayne Raineyism) squrrely. Stodgey is another word. I was wondering what 235's or even 225's might do to improve. I doubt the 225's would fit on the rims though, but it would be fun to try.....
