My issue. Unfortunately I only use my car for very short journeys each day. 2 miles at most, to and back from the gym. The car never really gets a chance to warm up, the oil temp gauge doesn’t even budge.. unless I deliberately keep it ticking over to warm up more.

Anyway, today heading back from the gym I had to use the kick down and when I did…an enormous amount of smoke, oil smoke blew out the back! It had done this once before, and I gave it a run up the A1M and it cleared completely, not had an issue again until today.
So I repeated the above.. this time it took a good 20 miles to clear. It would cruise fine, but when I kicked down in sport mode, 4000rpm etc it would leave a smoke screen!
Eventually this stopped and it runs perfectly clear. Blipping the throttle is fine, no smoke. Engine sounds fine, performs fine. So do you guys think that the Constant short journeys week in week out caused it to ‘oil up’ so needed a blast?

The other thing was, I checked the oil level on the iDrive, and it has always been full green lights, max. After today’s smoke screen I checked again…& it had plummeted to one orange block!!
So I added oil, a litre at a time.. I eventually put in 4L, but it still only shows 2 green blocks?
I’m reluctant to add more Incase the oil level sender is faulty.

Car has always been serviced on time. Has covered 84000 miles, and has only done 2000 miles since last service. No oil leaks, engine is clean and dry of oil. Doesn’t use coolant. Engine oil doesn’t have any Mayo under the cap.

Apologies for long post.. I’m just a bit stumped why it did this, and why it went from max oil to minimum instantly??

Wondering if it needs the CCV/PCV changing?

Probably worth Googling this; but when this happened to the previous M52s/M54s it was because the CCV was blocked and needed to be swapped out

Good shout, I’ll look into this. There’s a BM Specialist I take the car to. I’ll pop over and ask his opinion. Thanks.
