Dad is 89 and has a old Dell PC.

Looking for a lap top (not Apple) to use for online browsing, zoom calls etc. Nothing too intensive.

A decent size screen would be good.

It sounds like a Chromebook would be ideal for him.

Something like the device below would meet his requirements. They’ve got a decent battery life too.

Likewise, I have a Asus chromebook, my brothers both have Toshiba Chromebooks & for general web browsing, movie watching, light admin work for example some spreadsheets using OpenOffice & running Outlook they are spot on. These are all 14" screen 1080P resolution.

Minimal hassle & so fast compared to the old Windows 7/10 laptops that I was using until a few years ago. given I only paid £265 for my Asus (certified refurb from their website) an the Toshibas were £240 on Amazon, they have proved to be bargains compared to £300 worth of Dell.

I also have a Asus E403s which is a Windows10 based14" setup with a eMMC hard drive arrangement which although limits it's storage size is surprisingly quick/efficient . It works a treat and it only cost £100 refurbed off ebay - it's a HD resolution screen & it can cope with Zoom calls, Open Office/Outlook, movie streaming etc.

What os/windows version is it on? Will you dad be able to cope with a newer version or different OS?

Someone needs to say it: iPad hehe

If laptop form factor is a must the Chromebook as per above but if just for content consumption and the odd email then really do consider an iPad.

I would go onto the Dell Outlet site and buy something like this :

https://outlet.euro.dell.com/Online/SecondaryInven...

15.6 inch screen, 8GB Ram, Ryzen 5 3450U and 256GB SSD and the newer Inspiron 15 design (The 1 in 3515 indicated this as opposed to 0)

£348.48 (£396 with an extra 12% off)

Much better than your rubbishy Chrome Book.

I have bought two laptop from there, both were indistinguishable from brand new.

Chromebook 100% - I got one for my parents and it's so easy for them to use, plus no maintenance

Thanks for the replies. He’s currently using Windows 10, outlook and excel. Is there much of learning curve for Chromebooks and OpenOffice?
Thought about an iPad but he has an iPhone which he isn’t great with and he prefers a physical keyboard and mouse.
