Morning,

Just had an untethered charging point installed ready for my EV delivery, for ease I was thinking of getting one of these as they look easier to handle than a regular lead (I can just chuck it straight in a box in the boot).

Does anyone have one of these? I was concerned about poor quality cables reducing charging speed - should I be?

TIA

Would that not be a bit of a trip hazard?

It will be suspended in mid air rather than lying on the ground. May be an issue at night time?

My charging point is on a fence post half way up my drive, there won’t be any foot traffic down that side of the car so all good from that perspective.

Only thing I would consider is whether it's a good idea to have the cable suspended in the air by the charge points at either end. Might be a lot of weight!

A regular cable sits on the floor for most of it's route so the load on the ends won't be as much.

Might be nothing at all to be concerned about, of course... but maybe worth thinking about?

A good idea I think. Mercedes supplied a spiral 5m cable with my E350e. I’ve used it almost daily for 3 years and haven't had any problems with it being a trip hazard or damaging the sockets. Unplug, fling straight in the boot without having to coil it and as it doesn’t lay on the floor it isn’t covered with dirt or grit.

At home we have a 10m tethered cable which my wife uses 2-3 times a week. It suits us well but definitely more of a pain to coil back round the charger when wet and dirty where it’s been laid on the floor.
