Be careful if returning items to Amazon if opting for the shop to package the items.

I arranged to return two identical orders, and chose the option to drop them off at one of their local authorised returns shops, and received a QR code for each item.
I opted for the shop to package the items so all I had to do was scan the two QR codes in the shop, and hand the items over with the printed returns labels, which I did.

Problem started when the shop placed both items into the same returns bag, probably because they were identical, which meant Amazon thought only one item had been returned and only gave me one refund. Had to go on Amazon online chat and try to explain things, before finally being issued the other refund. So if doing similar make sure the shop place the different items into separate returns bags.

I'm having a similar problem with Amazon returns via Hermes pickup. A couple of times recently, I've sent three items in one return, two have been received and the other one hasn't.

I then receive a 'reminder to return the item' email from Amazon telling me that they are going to reverse the refund if they don't receive the item concerned.

I've not been able to get any resolution from chat so have just been getting American Express to reverse the transactions via dispute, but I'd rather sort it out properly if possible.

Did you get yours resolved on the automated chat, or were you actually referred to an agent?

So the message is: you were entitled to two refunds, and received two refunds.

Sounds like it was touch and go there for a moment, what with having to use the online chat function.

It sounds rather more like a poorly designed process where the clever people who designed it didn't really consider the scenario that someone might return multiple similar (or identical) items purchased in different transactions.

Are you in some sort of IT or para-IT function? You get wound up when users find bugs in your work?

The automated chat did eventually refer me to an agent who initially struggled to comprehend the scenario, but did refund me

My message is - if you're returning multiple orders containing small items (where you opt for the shop to package them), then to make sure the shop keeper doesn't put all your items and return labels into one bag as Amazon naturally assume you've only returned one of your items, so you'll be out of pocket.

Quite the contrary. There is a bug in their system but it favours the customer. With a previous order for two identical items I only received one item and when I raised a dispute Amazon allowed me to keep that item whilst fully refunding me. The same thing happened again a few weeks later when I again tried to order the right quantities, they again messed up and allowed me to keep the one item whilst refunding me.

A less honest person could if they wished do that a few times, if they were that way inclined.
