Audi TT 2.0 TFSI Roadster (mk2) pre-summer purchase
Discussion
I earlier picked up a "summer car" for SWMBO & I'm heading back home with it. The backdrop is my wife was a serial TT owner dating back to the early TTs in the late 90s and has had 4 before this one (2 180 bhp coupes and 2 225 bhp roadsters) used as her everyday car. This one is to be a 2nd car for weekend & summer use & I'm using the adage buy in winter and maybe sell in late summer.
The spec is as follows...2008 2.0 TFSI S-tronic (paddle shift auto), front wheel drive (quattro was an extra on the 2.0 petrol cars), 19" Audi S-line wheels, Xenon headlights, metallic black with full cream heated leather seats. MMI and factory Bluetooth. The car has with it part service history (82k miles) but importantly it had a recent water pump and cambelt replacement and an oil service plus rear brake pads (invoices for all this work) My car OCD meant we had to buy a car with a spare key; and a low number of owners & the handbooks which this one has all of plus & a good MOT history with only 1 recent advisory (rear brake pads that had been replaced post MOT)
The car has come from a small dealer rather than a private sale as I wanted some initial peace of mind if something went wrong & I didn't want to have the experience I was doing them a favour in buying it which some bigger dealerships can give the impression of.
Pics to follow shortly. The first jobs are to properly clean it inside & out, machine polish it (a few light surface scratches & the usual paint swirls) and then to recolour the drivers seat bolster as it has some light wear on it.
I had contemplated pushing the budget for a TTS but after some research the Magride issues (replacement cost) quickly put me off this idea

Good cars, and sounds a lovely spec.
Look forward to seeing the photos.
Does the history mention a gearbox service?
Worth checking it's been done.
I’ll be getting one done as a preventative measure as there’s a VW specialist nr us. The spec also includes BOSE (spotted as I sat in traffic with the roof down on the way home Look forward to seeing the photos.

Just bought a 2011 coupe this morning
Same deal, low owners & good history.
I know this is a thing with these engines, but just double checking…..does yours tick a lot at idle? Think it’s just the injectors working.
Nope, ours doesn’t tick at idle, & I’ve run it from cold for nearly 60 miles back to home (mostly with the roof down).

Chap at work had a TT coupe of this era (same engine) and he loved it.
Cracking day for a bit of roof down driving.
Indeed it was a good drive back though the Peak District.Cracking day for a bit of roof down driving.
My list of jobs on the car also includes now a full wheel refurb as the paint isn't upto my standards!! I might go with satin grey ala an S-Line Black Edition.
Initial picture as required for the thread after a quick wash (before the paint correction starts)

Had a MK1 180 TT coupe ~2002, and later a MK1 3.2l TTR. Still think they look amazing today.
Enjoy a summer of open-top motoring! Nothing improves the engagement and driving experience more than taking the roof off!
Thanks. The little child in me is enjoying the "parp" noise on the upsides with the roof down.Enjoy a summer of open-top motoring! Nothing improves the engagement and driving experience more than taking the roof off!
I agree that the TT is one of those timeless designs in the car world.
So, a few hours spent messing about this afternoon in the winter sunshine machine polishing most of the car - I used a clay mitt after washing the car to remove any embedded debris on the surface & removed plenty of tar with a tar remover as well. I then got the dual action machine polisher out of the cupboard & used Scholl S20 on a blue waffle pad for a one step paint correction which has removed most of the scratches and paint swirls & made the metallic paint have a good depth/shine - there are a few localised areas where it's not quite perfect but it would easily pass the neighbours driveway test.

I'm almost done on the outside (daylight and cooking duties restricted doing it all) but an hour or two tomorrow night should do it in the "man cave".
Why do manufacturers fit 19" alloy wheels to a car with about 200 bhp (& 255/35 tyres)?! - it all seems a bit excessive but then again it might be a sign I'm now slightly over 50
