Possibly the best US Cop film ever made?

It certainly is a good film overall, the ending gets me in the feels every time. I think the personal and routine style of the film helps you bond with the two characters, it's that aspect that makes it stand out.

Speaking of which, I had thought recently to rewatch it, I've not seen it for quite a few years now.

Yes, an excellent movie. One which it seems a lot of people haven't heard of, even after all these years - until it's recommended to them.

Must admit I blubbed at the end.

Every time I see it, it makes me long to rewatch Southland, which is one of my favourite all time series.

+1 re Southland superb series that was overlooked at the time & now seems to have been split across various platforms.

+1 for me as well, great series. Shame they didn't make more...we have enough Chicago PD type programes which seem to be popular but Southland was much more realistic and gritty

Not sure if it's on streaming but I picked up all the DVDs for pittance a few years ago.

I'm not sure how dated it would seem now but Homicide: Life on the Street was a fantastic series and, like Hill St Blues and NYPD Blue, paved the way for "intelligent" ensemble cop shows like Southland.

Southland immediately came to mind within the first 10 minutes of End Of Watch. As with Homicide - Life On The Streets it's a great depiction of partners shooting the breeze whilst solving crime but I find Jake Gyllenhall's character to be a bell-end that it never warranted repeated viewing.

Best cop show? The Wire
