Can anyone recommend a pair of salt & pepper mills?
Not fussed about ones which look impressive (already tried that) but I want something which will work for more than 3 months. My current ones stopped working for the pepper and just turns with very little coming out of the bottom.
Doesn’t matter if they’re wood, glass, plastic, metal, manual or electric as long as they can do the job, and keep doing it!

Oxo good grips.

Have outlasted more expensive ‘named’ movements and a pair of hideously costly Yank devices (lifetime guarantee too - that was useless).

Plasticky, very easy to use, simple to fill.

They might not be the fanciest but they are practical and long lasting. Think we’ve had ours for about 10 years now and they work fine, get used everyday

Best bit is they are stored on the glass bit so don’t leave salt and pepper residue in the cupboard/on the table

I never thought I’d get replies that quick!
Thanks, 2 good calls, reasonably priced and both have other matching gadgets available.
I’ll see how many others recommend these by the weekend then go and have a look.

There’s so many to choose from, and I’ve had so many bad ones, that I wanted to get some positive feedback from someone who has actually bought some.

Paris U'Select.

They do lots of different colours/sizes so pick one you like, as fundamentally all the same. I have the 18cm and it feels a little cramped to use, so would suggest getting the next one up, 22cm.

Go to a good kitchen shop and buy these.

I had the rest and these are the only good ones.

I have these, seem very good so far and you can adjust how fine they grind.

They are fantastic and on my list of things to buy. We bought some le cruset ones a while back and they annoy me everytime I use them.

Buy once cry once.

The wife bought me a set of Le Creuset Classic salt and pepper mills many years ago they are both used daily and are still going strong, you know the standard orange ones.

We have some simple WMF ones:

https://www.amazon.de/-/en/WMF-Gew%C3%BCrzm%C3%BCh...

Nice and consistent to use, but have found to my cost that generally it's best twist in the same way as if tightening the thread on the grinder part. One kitchen covered in peppercorns taught me that lesson rofl

I have destroyed many pepper grinders over the years until I got a peugeot 15 years ago and it's still going strong

I also grind pepper and salt using a cheap manual coffee grinder like this

I fill up a couple of pinch pots and use directly from those - handy for adding pepper to steaks on the barbecue and scattering over pizza.

+1 for WMF - got one as a pepper mill, sill using a Cole & Mason for salt but I found the design of the latter means it is slow for pepper grinding.
My WMF is the Trend and looks like they are quite a bit more expensive in the UK - seem to remember I had to shop around and also wait for a bargain when I got mine.

As above, my preference is the Paris 22 but I think I am right in saying the mechanics of the manual mills are the same so its really down to looks and preference. The reason for just saying Peugeot is they are renowned for their quality and after all, they invented them.

Le Creuset for me, on my second set after I left he first ones with the ex-wife. The salt one even worked perfectly in the high humidity of living in Indonesia without clogging up.
