I saw one go for 7.5k at Exeter car auctions 15yrs ago - it was in very good condition and stood out as a strange thing to see at Exeter auctions as they usually sold unforcourtable PX's from marsh Barton.....

When i owned my '04 phase 2 (circa '05 - '07) i remember that some Mk1's were, albeit briefly in the late '00's, available for circa £8-9k but soon started going back up. Phase 2's generally seemed to get no lower than around £12k before the prices started climbing. Obviously Cat marked vehicles were a bit lower in both cases but not by much.

In the 18 months odd that i owned mine, all it cost me - over the purchase price - was insurance, fuel, tax, 1 x service and a couple of mods including a silencer / filter. Managed to sell it for the same price i bought it for so it certainly held it's value well.

We sold an '04 plate in 2008 for £16995!

Bit of a bargain now!

How does £90k sound?

That's insane!
Buyer's remorse :-S but that's not going to be their only car. I'm Renault's biggest fan but my first one bored me the second time I drove it. Given I was buying and selling at the time I didn't do a Gerald Ratner :-)

The Renault Clio heritage V6 sold tonight on Collecting Cars £87,654 + buyers fee with nearly 15,000 miles. Clio Trophy in excess of £45k…..wow!

Spectacular result, though all the special colour cars like liquid yellow seem to be over £70k now.
Plus the Clio 182 Trophy at £47k was more than twice the previous record showing what people will pay for provenance, history - with the cars being in the magazine and videos - and in the case of the Trophy, number 001.
The Megane R26.R #001 also went for £41,075 and all of these cars have been driven hard over the years but there is only 1 number 001 !

Question for those in the know:
My father in law is looking to sell his modest collection which includes a MK1 V6 and Williams 2 - any pointers as to where best to do so? They’re just decent examples, not museum spec/mileage.
Thanks

Collecting Cars is about the only place I would consider now.

I am a current V6 owner and used to own chassis #002, 1 of 8 in Illiad blue with 1k miles on the clock.

I sold it privately, quietly, after being directly approached (how I picked up the car too) and got what would have been a record price then (<3yrs ago).

I guess it is now worth 50% more all day long and up to 100% on it's very best day. But all the best days seem to occur on Collecting Cars.

I also owned 2 x Clio Williams, one low mileage, which I also sold far too soon (got a missus, lost drive space, etc). Sold through the owners club (where I found it).

But; they're not investments so the 'profit' on #002 went into silver #079, which is currently being semi-restored by SG Motorsport (who may be worth a call to facilitate a sale) and has ~45k miles on the clock and I will use that daily (as I did pre-lockdown) to get the joy out of it.

In summary; for something slightly unusual/iconic there is only one answer IMHO as it seems to attract the 'right' sort of interest and wallets - Collecting Cars.

As Dom says both of these cars are sought after by Collecting Cars and they seem to be doing massive business - one of the obvious reasons is they don't charge a Sellers fees like other auctions do.
Amazing how all the others missed this as an incentive for decades!
Also these cars are now very much on the buying lists of the modern classics dealers like 4 star classics and Millennium Heros so worth a call.

Thanks for the suggestions guys.
My immediate thought was Collecting Cars but he seems to have an irrational aversion to auctions. I’ll suggestion Millennium Heroes etc to him.
I’d love to have a couple off him (Ur Quattro and 205 GTi) but have neither the funds nor space.

Contemporary Classics in Woking seem to have sold quite a few, as have S G Motorsport who also have a very good specialist service reputation for V6, in Chippenham ?

Call Scott at SG for a chat if you don't want to go down the Collecting Cars route - he's full of good advice and has mine at the moment!

I nearly pulled the trigger on a blue phase 2 with 49k for £12500 back in 2015 😱 but parts in future would be a worry.

Well I guess that those running cars are not having too much of a problem keeping them going ... but maybe better not to crash it.

Again, ask Scott ?

They're pretty solid in fairness... I haven't had any mechanical problems at all (8yrs) but Scott @ SG keeps 'em tip-top. But crashing is my big worry...
