993 Ruf btr2 cab,future classic?
Discussion
Hi Guys, popped over from the TVR forum so go easy.
I'm seriously looking at a 2000 993 Ruf btr2 cab
Its a full monty Ruf conversion dynoed at 619hp and 790nm torque, with a clutchless eks sequential 6 speed.
It is believed to be one of only four cabs made?
It's selling here for approx 50/55k (ukp) and has 17km's(11k miles) on the clock.
What do you guys think, classic or future classic? It has to one of the last aircooled engines installed.

Ruf BTRs are great cars, the classic 993 shape and a Ruf single-turbo conversion to 420bhp. However, the BTR is not a legend in the way that a CTR or CTR2 is, so doubt it will ever attain collector status. That said it's a great car.
I note you said 600+ bhp, was this done by Ruf or has it been modified afterwards as thats way above what a BTR will normally make.

And cabriolet will not be a classic. The coupe may get closer to that status, but enthusiasts tend to steer clear of the cabs fas the dynamics tend to be compromised by chopping the roof off. How it copes with 600 bhp I'd love to know; must have a lot of strengthening or just cracks the windscreen every full bore launch

As far as I know everything was done by Ruf,however i'm not sure of the motec ecu.
Sorry I haven't done my homework, whats the difference between the ctr,I did'nt think you could get much more extreme than this.

CTR is a completely different car, a legend and is a twin-turbo based on a lightweight 3.2 bodyshell, made in coupe form only.
The presence of a Motec Ecu suggests that the car has been tuned by an aftermarket tuner in Aus/NZ(Motec is very popular in Australia/NZ and Motec are an Australian company). To my knowledge Ruf always tune the existing ecus in the cars (Bosch) and have never used Motec.
Sorry Trev, I don't think it's going to be a classic. The number plate is quite funny (Ruf off) on a cabriolet, but the pics leave me a bit cold. I'm sure import tax is a killer and all in NZ, but I'd probably go for a Holden V8 and keep the change or something.
If it was a coupe it may be worth a look, but not sure about the cab at all.

You should also remember (as AdamT pointed out to me recently) that Ruf still offer the BTR conversion for a 993. So (import tax and hassle aside) you could get them to do one for you for about that money (including buying the base car). You'd then have a car built for you to your spec. and no worries about what other tuners may have done/not done to it.
Though finding a 993 with 17K kms might be a challenge
It also means that you should probably treat those numbers (only 4 cabs built etc.) with a pinch of salt.

Holden, wash your mouth out,id rather drive a bathtub.
Funily enough we have 0% duty on cars so they are on the whole realitivly cheap, although exotics due to limited numbers seem to have slower initial depreciation than UK.
I was looking at this car thinking it was the "Daddy"
I'm starting to swing back to the RS6 and my eight cylinder comfort zone.
Thanks for your help guys.
