Hi everyone,

I need an accountant or even bookkeeper to help us with some basic Companies House tasks (file dormant accounts, close one dormant company and some more small tasks), can anyone recommend an accountant or online service who can help on an hourly/job basis?

We do have an accountant for our main business and I asked if they could help with these tasks however they are super busy and there quote was high, I think they just priced themselves out of the job.

Any recommendations appreciated.

Hi there,

Sorry to be THAT guy who doesn't answer your question directly but...

Are you sure it's HMRC that need dormant accounts? It might be Companies House you mean.

Filing dormant accounts is quite painless and closing a company / dormant or not is easy as pie. Save yourself some money and spend 5 mins filling this form - online or print version:

Thanks, I have amended the post (typo!).

I will have a read through these later, I presumed it was fairly easy to do but one of those jobs you always put off in case you do it wrong.
At least if I can file the dormant accounts it will save me £240 (what I was quoted!)

Given you have an accountant working on other matters, I am somewhat surprised they would even think about letting you look elsewhere for these services - these are simple and take little time to those that know what to do (£200+VAT for dormant accounts is laughable).

They risk you "opening your eyes" to letting another firm work for you or at the least showing little goodwill to an existing client - I am not saying I would do it for free, but would certainly not be looking for more than a notional fee if it was my client. Indeed, I have several clients who have dormant/n longer trading companies as part of the gig, and there is no separate charge for dealing with them.

If you need a helping hand dealing with this, PM me and yes I am a Chartered Accountant!

I'm curious as to how much they're charging you for the other work smile

Thanks guys.

I pay them about £100 per month + VAT if I remember correctly.
We have been with them for about 7-8 years now and normally when dealing directly with the owner he would handle things for me for minimal fee, however as they have grown they now have different staff who we deal with and I was surprised at the £200 + VAT quote, hence why I am looking elsewhere.

They manage our main company but along with that I have a ltd company which is buying property (newly formed) and these are the things I need the odd bit of advice on, such as filing the dormant account.

While i am on here, we set the company up last year, however due to other work we have just got round to buying a house in the property company which is being built now, the last 12 months its been inactive, should I declare it dormant now and then next year once we have 1-2 sales in the company just file active accounts? If that makes sense..

The company is no longer dormant once the property has been purchased for sale/development ,,
