Ring Alarm Systems
Discussion
Looking at putting some security in place at home. Not a high crime area, but wife would like a little deterence in place.
This is obviously how long is a piece of string & I'm sure we could get an all singing all dancing system from a security company. However what is anyones experience with systems such as Ring?
Any recommendations or thoughts?

For a wireless alarm set up it’s decent stuff and there’s been decent improvements over the generations. The hardwired floodlights are great with there detection zones and brightness.
I’m sure if you installed a bespoke system it would be better but as far as a off the shelf quick fix I’m happy enough with it.

Quite a few friends purchased these when they were on special before xmas.
Everyone seems happy with them and the different sized kits they sell seem to cater for most.
I've got 3 cameras from Ring and I'm considering the alarm as a similar thing to you, not particuarly high crime, but it might make your house the least easy to target in the street which is what matters to opportunisitic burglars.

Thanks for thoughts.
I knew a guy who ran a company selling security systems. Even though he made a good living selling the stuff he had a couple of thoughts in the matter:

- you get 90% of the benefits with a basic system (even just a dummy box). As thats enough to make the speculative burgalar go elsewhere.
- a fancy looking systems tells people you have something worth protecting
- if you do have something worth protecting & they know about it a “professional” will still get round most systems

The alarm integrates really well if you already have cameras and doorbell etc.. Everyone seems happy with them and the different sized kits they sell seem to cater for most.

or if like here the nearest police station is 15 miles away they know they have 20 minutes or so before the fuzz may or may not turn up so cook themselves a nice dinner, have a bottle of wine and go for a snooze with enough time to still make it off with your tele.I knew a guy who ran a company selling security systems. I know someone high up in one of our local forces, he says any form of CCTV pretty much means they'll move onto another target. Caveat that we don't rally get targeted car burglaries up here-they amount of CCTV footage of people having cars stolen suggests it doesn't help with that!
Iv had guy assault me, attempt to steal £100 of goods while at work, he got nothing as I defended myself
As for the ring alarm, iv got one. Its good. Easy set up, even can get an outside alarm now that goes off if you want. It instantly tells your phone if it goes off and in what area. The door/window connections was bulky though. Maybe redesigned since I got mine. To make one fit, I removed the magnet from its plastic casing on one side so It was tiny and stuck it on. It worked, only way I could get it on my type of window.

Just to go back to this,
I actually went with the Ring system. Very easy to set up & now I can stalk them all whilst I'm away & see what they are up to!
Does the Ring have gsm option ? IE what would happen if the scallies damaged/disabled your internet I actually went with the Ring system. Very easy to set up & now I can stalk them all whilst I'm away & see what they are up to!

I think its 80 quid a year
Does that include the doorbell or is that a separate monthly subscription? Also, do all components (bell box, keypad, sensor etc) need a decent connection to the house wifi? (or is it a mesh type system)
You will need a connection to the house wi-if, but I think it can then set a Mesh system from there
I’ve just bought the system, an issue I have is the door contact sensor, my door and frame and set back from each other, I need some kind of insert I can stick to the frame so the magnet and sensor align, I know what I need in my head but I’m having trouble finding something on Amazon

Can you not just use any type of plastic block? I had to do the same, and on one I had to remove the magnet to make it line up by being smaller. I used the old plastic casing left to bump one out elsewhere. My only issue with the system is my kitchen sensor. It runs out of battery really quick compared to the rest. Might just buy a new sensor for that bit.
