New engine v12
Discussion
Hi there I have just had a brandnew Engine block and all new parts required including new Radiator, currently the Engine has done 500 mile running like a dream, would the fact that I have a new Engine block add the the value of the car when I sell even though its 2004.
If so how much of a %would it add to the value.
Thanks all.

A bit of a strange question when we don't really know the condition of the rest of your car? You appear to have posted rather a lot of repair type questions recently on your car - was it perhaps a write off before you started renovating it? The condition is key to being able to give any idea of value really.
So, I guess the best answer I can give with regard to to any change of value of the car is it will be worth a lot more than it was before without a functioning engine, but likely less increase than you paid for the brand new engine.

I'd be interested in hearing why you needed a new block, both as a prospective buyer and out of curiosity on this forum. Also, what parts were new. Is it just a short block? Or new heads, cams, etc. And why a new radiator? If so how much of a %would it add to the value.
Thanks all.

Hi there certainly not a write off the engine had oil starvation, so I thought it best to buy new block. It has also had new camsv, basically everything is new, the rad had never been changed so seemed sensible as engine was out anyway.

A new block would definitely put me off buying the car. It isn't like a new clutch, blocks just don't wear out and need replacing, so a new block means there has been a serious problem with the engine, so some stuff has been replaced, and presumably other stuff wasn't replaced. I'd want the car to be 20-30% cheaper before I'd take a risk like that.If so how much of a %would it add to the value.

Everything has been replaced let me assure you of that, it would be remiss of me not to have everything replaced given new Engine block, I have every invoice for every item that has been replaced, as previous since the Engine was out I also replaced with new Rad.
Thanks for your reply.
Thanks for your reply.
I'm afraid I wouldn't be too excited about a new block. Every time I see a car advertised with a new engine it asks questions in my mind.
Whilst it gives you some comfort, the engines were at their best when built at the factory, by people who build them all day long.
Personally I wouldn't advertise it with comments about a new block, but that's just my personal bias.

I get that, this was a brand new block out of the Aston garage.
I'll enjoy it for a few years
If I was buying it wouldn't bother me, I would prefer new engine and parts as it would have had off the line, with upgraded parts also. As long as I coukd confirm. Invoices etc.
Rather an engine with less miles than expected with FSH
Thanks all

Sadly a bunch of invoices for new parts is not the whole picture. The next question is who built it and did they know what they were doing? A one-off, hand-built engine, assembled with care by an expert builder who is thoroughly knowledgable on Aston V12s in a clean build room using optimal clearances, torques, etc and minimum tolerances (blue printed) would be a good thing; an engine screwed together by Fred in a Shed might not be quite such a good long-term prospect.I'll enjoy it for a few years

Certainly sounds like you do thorough work there.
I think if the engine work has good pedigree and especially if there was some sort of warranty then there may be a premium to the work. (especially if the early DB9 tick risk has been removed?).
Because the engines are rightly perceived as pretty reliable this increase may not be too much.
There is also the engine number thing which to some may be a negative.
So in answer it may put some potential buyers off. It may add some value but probably not that much. It must make you feel good though if you were keeping it.
