What checks when buying a car privately

Have seen a car I really like on Autotrader. Went to see it in the flesh and it looks good, but viewing wasn't easy...
The car was advertised and shown to me by the owners father (I think) and his English wasn't very good so wasn't able to get straight answers to some standard questions. The son (owner) is now living abroad I'm told.
I feel a bit uneasy that the viewing address didn't match the V5C doc. He did say something about owning another home but it was all a bit unclear (Language) The V5C address did however match the fathers driving license.
Car itself looks good. But handing over £15k in a private sale I need to be sure. My gut tells me everything is probably fine, but want to make sure I do due diligence.
It was purchased by the son just 5 months ago from a Merc main dealer (For which I saw a digital copy of invoice)
It's on a private plate at the moment with the original plates in the boot. Vendor tells me it'll go back to the original plate.
Besides HPI check, what else would you check in order to complete the sale?

Try organising an AA inspection? These guys can often offer their own option on things.
Not too many go to the trouble of giving £15k to a Merc dealer then off load it 5months later.
How good is the deal?
