After being in the same company for 22 years (only company i've ever worked for) and 5 years in current role, I'm bored. I'm in a field based role and the work is very scarce, i work from home almost 100% of the time at the moment. Whilst it is nice getting paid to do nothing it's not good for me long term.
I'm thinking a change of job, i'm looking at a couple of areas. Mortgage advisor or project manager. Both very different jobs obviously.
I'm leaning towards project management, i've worked in projects before albeit not as a head of one but i quite enjoyed it.
Has anyone got any tips to get into it? what courses would be best? is contracting best?
Thanks

Project management in what field? I'm a programme/project manager in IT/Security/App etc but I wouldn't fancy trying to build a house for example, I have years of experience in IT and understand the tech, the do's and don'ts, the quick wins and the stuff that you could burn weeks/months on, but I don't have that knowledge in building as per my example.I'm thinking a change of job, i'm looking at a couple of areas. Without knowing where you want to be it's hard to offer constructive advice other than IT to be honest.
In IT there are 2 methodologies - Waterfall and Agile, I won't go into the details but I will assume you have knowledge of both, you would be a PM or scrum master/delivery manager depending upon which side of the fence you are on.
Courses - well an agile course, and a Prince 2 course would cover the above methodologies.
I think your big challenge will be getting a foot in the door as you won't have any tangible experience on your CV, companies will want to know the size of projects you have worked on, number of reports, budget, how many years experience etc.
With the courses and possibly a tweaked CV you might get a junior/lower end role so possibly a step backwards in terms of salary, but you would get experience in that role, contracting is an option but employers want people to hit the ground running and have years of knowledge, perm roles you should have a little bit more time to get up to speed.
Might be worth speaking to a few agencies and see what they say, they will have a better idea what's hot and what isn't which may steer your decision.
