... what do you guys think if the car? My work commute is 10 miles each way so could use electric only for a lot of it

A friend of mine has one.
He works about 12 miles from home and can charge at both ends .. he reckons he hasn’t put any petrol in it in 6 months
But he does only use it for his commute and locally
It works for him, he’s an accountant and as tight as a ducks arse !
lol - i like the fact it has a decent petrol engine for longer runsHe works about 12 miles from home and can charge at both ends .. he reckons he hasn’t put any petrol in it in 6 months

Hi
I’ve got a 330e M Sport.
Similar commute to you, 12 miles each way.. At first I could charge at both ends, meaning throughout a week of commuting the ICE never came on running in edrive mode.
I’ve since lost the ability to charge at work so I start each day fully charged, use e power out of my village, ICE on the dual carriageway, then back on e power once I come off. I haven’t precisely calculated the mpg, but the trip computer shows 99.9mpg which is what the trip tops out at, I’m thinking I’m somewhere around 120mpg. So around a gallon for a weeks commute which I think is pretty good!
Throw in some long runs (200 miles) starting fully charged and I’m seeing 50+ mpg.
Last year I had to do an 80 mile round trip on a mix of roads and I was seeing 65-70mpg.
Costing overall is far less than my previous 330d to run overall.
Performance is obviously less than the 330d, and I haven’t got a great 3l engine. But overall as a package I prefer the e, it’s far far more refined than the d, both in terms of engine and suspension. Surprising given I’m running the same 19” wheels, I’m guessing being an e it has se suspension not M Sport. But given the state of the roads, and it’s just a daily driver I’m not missing the M suspension..
Usually when I’ve seen this question asked the e gets knocked as just a tax break. But if used correctly, charged daily, and a little thinking how you drive with the different modes I think it’s brilliant.
I’m considering moving on though, maybe to full ev. But the problem with that is range, something the 330e hasn’t got a problem with! The only way to get range is an expensive EV costing double the price of an f30 330e.
Hope that helps!

extremely helpful thank you - i'm not getting anything from it as a tax break etc just a private buyer looking for a car that suits my requirements but still has some flair etc and this seems idealI’ve got a 330e M Sport.

Looks good. I believe the extras on this car are: metallic paint, 18 inch wheels, HK stereo and the pro-navigation with wider screen.
Does it have folding rear seats? The later builds had these as standard. Much more practical if it has.
For your commute you won't be able to use electric only for the return journey. It's brilliant for weekend local runs, and of course no range anxiety for longer runs.

Thanks both, very much a newbie question but I assume I can charge this at supermarkets etc
Yes. It may have a charge current limit lower than say a Tesla (the equipment is on board the car) but yes I just use main 3 pin at home at night with timed conditioning then a regular hook up cable when out if required. Gassing Station | BMW General | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
