quick hp question

Am I right in saying a strong 500 should be around 240 to 280 hp at the rear.
A friend with a griff has had some ecu mapping done after find a fault which was causing overfueling.
The tuners came back with the graph saying look wev'e found you 10 more hp,youv'e now got 130kws(thats roughly 180hp).
Oh forgot to add the engine was rebuilt only 10kms ago.
Somethings not right here eh.

Definitely something wrong. A good 4.o Chim should produce around 225bhp so a 5 should put out around 260-280.

Aren't those flywheel figures?

Yes, but you wouldn't expect to loose 80-100bhp through the transmission with a 5l Chim (more like half that)

Just last week had my chim 450 on the rolling road at AUstec put out 231BHP @ 5000RPM at the wheels which is apparently about right

My griff 500 puts out just shy of 250hp at the wheels on Austecs RR and I'm told this is good for a std engine. Hope this helps.

I'm almost certain that some folks here are getting their "wheels" and their "flywheels" mixed up here...

A healthy stock 500 will be producing 255-275bhp AT THE FLY. That is a quote from no less than Mark Adams.

If you allow for a conservative 20% transmission loss, and these figures were indeed at the wheels, the 500 would be producing 318-344Bhp at the Fly.

Which is pie in the sky.

Spot on sharky, it would be easy if there was only one "measuring stick" some RRs quote road wheel figures , some quote flywheel.

I concur with 265-275 flywheel for Griff 500, as bench dyno's also give around these figures.
450 chimaeras around 240-250
4.0L around 210-220

you will occasionally get an exeption to the rule though.

aha yes I have just re-read my post and I was wrong my chim 450 graph shows 231BHP at the flywheel @ 5235RMP and a co-responding 205BHP at the wheels. But they told me this was spot on, should I be worried with these figures ? Hmmmm

I've a graph showing my 4.0L with 239bhp after having a tornado chip fitted by MA. Done before I bought the car.
