A close friend has a Cross Turismo 4S on order. Delayed from Feb to July and now lease co emailed to say factory to stop building them for 2 months due to Ukraine and wiring looms.

Anyone aware how you get handled if this pushed into another MY and the cost of vehicle rises significantly? I assume the buyer must pick up the increases even though paperwork is signed on a given lease monthly and term?

Took my Macan in for a service yesterday and was chatting with the service person. Was discussing the loss of the US deliveries of Porsches on the ship that sank. They weren’t affected and there were no customers affected for them, but did indicate that Panamera production was stopped for lack of wiring looms. Didn’t mention Taycan.

They did say that Porsche had almost finished building the lost models from the ship but had pushed back on other deliveries as a result. Impressive if true, but they did say that production was flat out to try and fulfill orders. This is the biggest dealer for 100 miles and they just can’t get cars fast enough that they have resorted to refreshing clean and original first model Cayennes to have something to sell!

Same at BMW and apparently other VW lines too - perhaps most VW lines.

And in that 2 month period, the orders will continue to pile in and the waiting time stretches on forever more. Some of the delays even before the war still exist as a hangover from Brexit and Covid too.

My mate has just had to buy a used car to bridge the never ending delay in getting his i4. It's all a bit of a clusterfk - the last thing the automotive industry needed when it was already juggling the transition of lines from ICE to EV.

No they won't be forced to do that. If there is an increase in the lease payments they will have the option of accepting that or cancelling the order

Porsche Suspending All Production Due To Conflict In Ukraine

article said:
Right now there is no word on how long the pause is going to last for the newly impacted models. However Porsche reports Panamera and Macan production is planned to restart March 11th.

Thanks for all the replies. So an option to bang out of the deal is what I hear. It was a tough deal to get approved by his other half and if it rises in cost then I'm sure it's going to be canned!

It’s not that big an achievement- obviously the timing isn’t great but at a high level it’s a day’s production for Porsche.

A colleague has a Taycan through a lease.

The car was over 12 months late on delivery and the cost per month had risen by £400.

He told them to stuff it and they backed down (car was registered to him by then, so I assume it would then effectively be second hand ?) . As I recall they settled on a £100 per month increase.

Why would a leased car be registered to anyone other than the leasing company?

Good point and I dont know all the details, maybe it was just because it was registered to someone (Tusker is the vendor), but in the car was sat in the dealership, with his private reg on it waiting for it to be sorted out.

They tried to get him to pay a lot more, but he walked away and they came back to him with a much improved offer.

He did get a newer model than expected and is very happy with it now.

I’ve leased and contract hired a few cars and the v5 has always been in my name

It's the difference between registered keeper and registered owner, your name will be on the v5 for VED/insurance/fine purposes but you would not hold the v5 as that would stay with the lease co.

I'm 2nd in line at my dealers for a Turbo S saloon. It's replacing my 4S so I'm not overly bothered about any delays.

However, popped in last week and my salesman doesn't seem to think there will be much of an impact on delivery times. I can't see how this can be the case and most other sources I hear from are telling me it could add months on to delivery times.

To be fair, Porsche haven't officially said how long the delay is expected to be. That doesn't mean that they don't have a rough idea, as will many people involved in the supply chain.

Often rumours are accurate. In this case, probably as accurate as anything can be, given the delay is at least in part due to a war that we don't have a timeline for.

My mate is currently awaiting an i4 that is held up because BMW have also suspended their lines. His business partner has a Taycan on order. It's not a popular subject in their office...

As above every search result on the subject comes back with the same answer and having leased a number of cars over the years I've also never been in possession of the v5 either. They just send through the tax tax disc (when they sill existed) in the post etc.

PCP would be different of course.

Why?

Who has the v5 depends on the lessor, some have it in their name and some have it in the lessee's.

It’s normally in the name of the person or company responsible for paying the VED. Certainly with Audi/VW/Skoda/ Seat etc you will never see the V5 when leasing (PCH).
