hello all.

can anyone tell me how i get from downloading a bit-torrent to getting the actual (movie)file on my desktop as an .AVI format. (im ok up to this point) to putting the file on a blank DVD and then be able to watch the movie on TV through a DVD player...?

cheers

Many new DVD players are DivX compliant - this means you can copy the avi file onto a DVD and just watch it like that.

Otherwise, you have to use something like Nero to re-encode the AVI file onto a "proper" DVD. My pc takes between 3 and 4 hours per DVD to do this... boooooooring. And my PC is pretty fast too, 3.8ghz and all that jazz.

I'm personally about to buy a DivX DVD player as I would rather fork out a few quid than keep messing around trying to do it properly!

Nero is DVD burning software that comes in a 'lite' and full version. The lite version gets given away with DVD/CD burners and is limited in functionality, the full one less so.

There are a few free tools for converting file formats from one to another, might be worth googling for some.

.. and good luck with keeping the sound in sync with the video. Whenever I've tried this, its been way out.

If you've got a Mac, then ffmpegx will do the conversion for you and create the video_ts folder that you burn to your DVD. Takes about 30 mins to re-encode a 2 hour movie on my Mac.
