Classic Le Mans
Discussion
It’s on this year……Hallelujah. We are going en convoy with a mixed bag of classics.
Part of our routes would take us into Rouen and on the return journeys Reims.
As I understand it the emissions leglislation rules around certain towns/cities for certain cars have been delayed/ changed?
https://www.ffve.org/zones-a-faibles-emissions-zfe...
As a pre 97 car we cannot apply for a crit air vignette but I’m unsure on the current situation.
Obviously don’t want a convoy of cars to be ticketed if we can help it !!
Anyone with a better understanding of the new rules or actually in France that can throw some light on this pls?

We are planning a photo op st the old circuit ( its a given really) also an overnight stay in the city on the way back from CLM.
From what I can decipher it looks like the emissions zone has been postponed for certain classes of vehicle, including as they say ‘historic vehicles’.
All cars pre 97 can’t get a ‘crit air’ vignette but I’m just unsure on the latest announcement, regarding the exemptions ?

Les Amis du Circuit de GUEUX certainly have cleaned it up!

Parts of the site looked very smart the last time I was there, en route for the 2018 CLM. Sad to say, the grandstand seems too unsafe to evan start repairing, and may be allowed to fall down.
And while the part to Virage Muizon is now truncated, the rest, if you ignore a dual carriage way RN31 and a roundabout at the end of the start/finish straight, is almost as it was in the day, well worth a circuit or two! And do not omit going down the cul-de-sac of the old Bretelle Nord section to the bottom curve, to the memorial cross for Luigi Musso, who was Hawthorne's equal on and off the track, killed there in 1958.
And if you enjoy a visit to the Rheims-Gueux circuit, please go to the web site of Les Amis and support their work by a donation or buying some of their merchandise. See: https://www.amis-du-circuit-de-gueux.fr/

Do you really need to stay in Reims? There are choices in Epernay or surrounding towns that will give you a fabulous dining experience. I like Matougues - between Epernay and Chalons - great restaurant and no hassle parking. If you want a champagne visit then plenty of smaller producers in the area. From what I can decipher it looks like the emissions zone has been postponed for certain classes of vehicle, including as they say ‘historic vehicles’.

This part of the trip has yet to be finalised, but we pretty much want to do something along those lines. While on the subject of both the 24 Heures and the Classic many of you might not know that all mask restrictions ended Sunday night. It seemed very strange yesterday going shopping "naked"!
ETA:- While I think of it, if memory serves the Campanile at Bezannes (not far from the pits and main straight at Reims) has gated parking which might ease the mind.

All the above refer to hotel accommodation, but for anyone who camps, but hasn't been to Rheims, be warned! It's in the middle of Champagne country, and as champagne vines are grown, or can be grown, on poor ground that in other parts of France might be campsites, there are aren't any! Nul, rien, pas du tout!
After several trips that involved Le Gueux, I have a number of wild camping sites that work well, but I'm sorry, I'm not telling!

Definitely a great event to go to to 'tick the box'. Made the pilgrimage back in 2010 (courtesy of accommodation organised by Monsieur Lowdrag - Brettes-Les-Pins if memory serves!), worth it to see all those classics I watched on VHS as a child on Steve Mcqueen's homage to the circuit, even got to witness a Ferrari 512 grenade itself coming out of Indianapolis - never seen engine parts fly 30 feet in the air before...
As for 'rough camping', not what i'd be looking to do after driving through half of England and Northern France but to each their own!
