From an Abarth to a ...?

I'm currently running a 595 Abarth as a daily. I've had it 3 years; although I haven't fallen out of love with it I fancy a change. I've got a couple of weekend 'toys'. There's no need for another family car as Mrs Moroni has a Kuga but I do need something I can use for the occasional school run.

I'm a bit perplexed what to buy next, here are my requirements

500/Abarth size
Minimum of 4 seats (happy with 2 doors)
Something with decent performance
I'm open to going down the EV route but happy to keep with ICE
No older then 3 years
I'm 6ft 5, so need decent head & leg room
Budget £15k - £20k (but happy to go over by 10%)

So far I've considered:
Fiesta ST3
UP! GTi
Another Abarth

Thoughts please

GR Yaris? Might be a little over budget though.

Honestly with used car prices as they are, I am holding onto my Abarth. There isn't anything I want to replace it with anyway.

How about an hyundai i20n a little over budget but see what you can do I used Carwow and got a great deal.

Agreed, as much as I would like a GR, I cannot justify going £15k over my budget. Especially as I've only just convinced Mrs M that I NEEDED a 996 C4S

Like you, I'm finding it difficult to find a replacement for the Abarth hence the reason why it's on my list

I like the sound/style of that Yaris. Although not in white with those stickers. Certainly one for further research.

MINI's don't really do it for me (apologies to the above Poster )

Never considered an A1. One to consider

Clio 200. I had a 16v Clio back in the day (I was offered a Mk1 Williams for similiar money but I turned it down. What was I thinking!!). Fantastic little car but questionable electrics. I assume thats no longer a problem?

DS3 Performance. LOVE the look of that. Interesting mods!

208GTI. A bit 'meh' I'm afraid. It certainly wouldn't better my old 205 GTI

i3. Another possibility, anyone got experience of one of these?

I've had a few D3S's and the chassis & steering are ok, but not up to Mini or Fiat levels. they're very cheap, as per the one GB has listed above

At least they have an ok driving position which a major reason for not getting another Arbarth

The Fiesta is next best after the JCW so I suggest you settle for that

Not the i3 Rex but ran a full BEV i3 for about 12 months. Cracking little city car, loads of space for driver and passengers (I'm 6.4" and my 6ft teenage son could sit behind me). Good fun RWD chassis, brilliant response from the BEV powertrain, lots to like.

You could possibly get into the more sporty i3S 94ah Rex that will do 120-150 miles in pure electric mode for your budget
and I'd expect depreciation to be very slow.

The Fiesta is a consideration. I am a bit of a Ford Fan Boy having had a few Capri's & Cortina's previously and still hanker after a Mk2 RS2000. Plus Mrs M gets quite a discount of Fords through her work.

Thanks for your imput. I do like the look of the i3 and your thoughts are appreciated especially the size of the interor.

I could easily do 2 days motoring on electric mode alone with the 94ah Rex

Is there a reason for the size limit? I would have suggested a gt86 for that money for something different from the 500, and it's not fwd like most of the other comparisons.

No problem. With access to other vehicles you'd be a perfect candidate for an ICE city car.

With the battery only being 27.2kWh useable, assuming you can fit a charger at home you'd be able to charge fully overnight easily at a cost of around <£6 (at 20p kW) for those miles. Even a 3 pin granny charger would have a good go.

Abarth's are a very fun steer but I'd take the Fiesta everytime.
