I happened upon a recipe recently which suggested threading the cardamom pods on a length of cotton then once the rice is cooked they can be removed easily. Sounds like too much hassle tbh!
I agree though, cardamom pods are a pain in the rice and you don't get them ruining it in restaurants, never thought of just putting the seeds in though.

My OH now is of Bengali heritage, and she thinks deliberately eating them is weird. But she likes to accompany dhal and rice with whole raw green finger chillies and salt, so she's no room to talk.
