Late Holiday deals

Well swmbo has decided that she doesn't fancy another 4 weeks at home with our 2 little angels....
So, we're thinking about a week away in the sun, sometime this month. We've never done a package deal holiday, but guess this will be our best option for a bargain...
So, any ideas of where best to look, other than the high street ??
All suggestions, and piss takes, welcome.....!!

Some of the big brand websites are very worth looking at...we've booked our holiday this year through the internet, just sorted insurance separately.
What we did:-
1) Went to high street, got LOTS of brochures.
2) Decided on shortlist for preferred islands and best resorts. Picked top two islands.
3) Surfed the net, looking for deals on those islands/resorts.
4) When we saw what looked like a good deal, we checked out:-
- location...was it going to be noisy, was it up a hill, was it miles from anything etc.;
- star-rating in brochure;
- facilities;
- MOST IMPORTANT - reviews. Try the following websites:-

www.tripadvisor.com/
I'm sure there are others I've forgotten...do a google search, see what pops up.
5) Booked the holiday online. We got a £25/person online discount...beat the travel agent we checked it against by c. £30.

Good points there - most of which I have certainly used in the past when booking our main holiday. Its just that on this occasion I was thinking more in terms of just finding a cheap deal and getting away for a week.......but maybe that's too big a risk.....

The cheaper the package holiday, the more reps will hassle you to go on really lame excursions...
that is true..and it would be nice if the reps could actually speak english..out one came into the room at 9am when we were very hungover on our last day and started shouting in a strange dialect..she left after being told to fark off..
turns out she was infact warning us that if we didnt vacate the hotel in the next half hour we would miss our flight...which we indeed did.
Going to Minorca on a family holiday once, got to L*t*n airport at around 5.30am to find that the airline wouldn't let us board, as our villa company had gone bust...
Went home to a pub doing breakfast, phoned the travel agent and explained we had a car full of luggage, and pockets full of pesetas.
We ended up in the villa next door for half the price - flying out the same morning!
If you've got the nerve, you can pull it off!
