Have always liked these ever since I was a teenager so when this came up, couldn't help myself...

Needs a bit of TLC to put it back into tip top condition. But I'm looking forward to driving it.

I guess now BMW have bought Alpina it's a one of the originals.

Edit: Also bought this which also needs some work...

Nice couple of cars. Are you a trader or flipper or just buying for you to keep?

I'm not a trader but I don't know how long I'll keep them, they'll definitely be brought up to a decent standard and driven for a bit though.

The Alpina was an interesting read, looks a beast of an engine. Never been to sure on the Alpina styling on a modern BMW, the wheels and splitter always seemed to suit the vintage cars better. Rare and interesting though. Enjoy!

Love them both. thumbup

The only things I don't like about Alpinas is most of them are automatic, and I'd hate cleaning their wheels!

Thanks! I keep meaning to do readers threads on a couple of my cars as I fiddle about with them a bit. Hoping to get them both picked up tomorrow or Friday once insurance is sorted and I have a spare pair of hands.

Quite excited for the B5, I was in my late teens when they came out and for some reason always had a soft spot for them over the equivalent M5 - I also grew up with an 840Ci in the household and loved the engine, loved driving it when I passed my test, even though it wasn't particularly quick, this should be better with the supercharger bolted on!

I forgot how silky smooth the BMW V8 was... the seats in the B5 are incredible, like an armchair.

Last time I drove this V8 it was in an 840Ci, albeit without the supercharger!

Electric car levels of relaxed wafting, horrendous fuel consumption (15mpg ish) which at current prices doesn't make for a great mile muncher. It's going in for some paint as there are bits of lacquer peel, then full paint correction, new discs and pads all round, new Alpina badges front and back, wheel refurb, new centre caps all round, full interior refresh, powder coating of all the bits underneath... but mechanically it's absolutely spot on.

I'll start a Readers Rides next week.

The Alpina looks stunning, beautiful car thumbup The RS could be a smart purchase if it’s in decent original condition.. Prices for most things RS are strong. I had an ‘88 RST 30 odd years ago as a yoof
