Hello,

Inspired by the ski-walker thing thread - does anyone know much about skipping ropes? What would be the best one to go for?

Now, I've already discounted the double-dutch ones, and Barbie's "My First Rope" ones etc... though I will be trying to get hold of the Malcolm McLaren song to skip to. hmmm baah baah, hmm baah baah

Seriously - are there brands/types out there that are particularly recommended for beginners use. I will be using it on a concrete floor in case that makes a difference to the rope material.

TIA,
Phil.

Didnt read the ski walker thread, so not sure why you want one but definitely go for a leather rope!

I used to skip daily, my tennis coach could even tell by my performance on court if Id skipped a day Leather is faster making it easy to swing the rope round twice per jump (something you'll do all the time after a bit of praccy) and the cris cros fancy boxer type shit much easier.

Erm... why do you want to skip?

dunno... I've just heard that it's very good exercise. It is also something I can do behind closed doors so as not to inflict my sweaty, flushed gait on the general public a'la road running etc.

...and I need to loose a :ehem: pound or two

and thanks for the Barbie/Fall Over comment... if only you could visualise that combination!!

But where would I find two kids to hold the rope for me?

I reckon if I landed on it they'd be propelled towards each other so quickly, it'd be disasterous!

And judging by the size of that rope, I think I could just use a pair of my boxer shorts - one in each leg... jobs a good'un.

Skipping is pretty cool. It'll get you incredibly fit too, you'll sweat like a sauna, loose loads of weight, and achieve some small degree of satisfaction when you develop speed and can pull off all the tricks, go for it mate

I bought a Gold's Gym leather rope a while from one of the high street sports chain which I've found to be pretty good (although slightly stiff to start with and needed some leather cream for softening), unlike my skipping...my visions of looking like Rocky etc still a bit wide of the mark! Still bloody good exercise though, and of course you can take it virtually anywhere.

You replace the children at each end with a chair, also means you can have a quick sit down should you need to

The trouble with having a skip outside your house is that somebody will put a mattress in it, and somebody else a bicycle.

Or do there issued with these, like a skip starter kit?

"Here you are Sir, sign the hire agreement here, where do you want the mattress and the bike?"
