Telly question, sound bars? Mounts?
Discussion
This may seem like a newbie question.
I'm looking at this TV.
LG OLED55C14LB
It appears to come with a stand. I assume this is just a dead-weight box, and not the speakers?
If so are the speakers inside the big chunky bit on the back of the TV?
Are these speakers any good? I read a lot about ATMOS and sound bars and all that jazz. But surely if a TV is sold as ATMOS then it'll support decent enough sound as it comes?
I could go to Currys or whatever but I genuinely have no time/inclination to go to shops any more to be 'sold' to. I'd try Richer sounds but travelling into a big city just to talk about a TVs speakers?
I have read the entire manual (annoyingly the manual links on LGs website is all for the TvOS, I had to go to a random other site for the hardware manual) and there is no specific description of anything to do with the actual hardware etc... just very range generic 'remove stand' etc if fitting to a wall... no specifics telling me where screws are, what speakers it has, where they are etc.
Needless to say I've not been enlightened about the audio beyond "ATMOS" and 40W (higher is better)...
Basically, can I buy this, remove that big bit off the bottom, throw the TV on a wall, and get decent enough audio for a 'normal' home user?
Other random question. Assuming I'm feeding a PC into this, audio will just come in across the HDMi/DP as a digital stream won't it?
Thanks very much.

Sanus mounts are very good.
I've used a couple. They are well designed and allow cantilevered movement and tilting.
To work out which TV mounts fit which TV you need to look up the VESA spec of yours - VESA is a standard set of measurements of the placement of the 4 x threaded bolt holes on the back of your TV that you use to attach your TV to the mount.
Sound-wise I've always gone for a soundbar as minimum. My smallest TV has a soundbar, the two middle ones have soundbars with subs and the largest one a full surround sound system.
But maybe your TV speakers are OK/good enough for you? Dunno.

I currently have an old LG 37” LCD with built in speakers which have been fine for the 13 years we’ve had it.
I really don’t want to buy extra stuff as it’s just more wires and horizontal surfaces required (there will be plenty under it but kids end up covering it in plasticine, food and toys etc)
I’d been looking at mounts a lot and I’d settled on Sanus being the better ones, and prices still very reasonable.
Ok I’ll probably tick that telly off on my list.
Next job is digging into my wall to see what’s in it!
Thanks for the help!

The wall mounts typically come with fixings for brick walls.I really don’t want to buy extra stuff as it’s just more wires and horizontal surfaces required (there will be plenty under it but kids end up covering it in plasticine, food and toys etc)

One of mine is mounted on on a bit of MDF carpentry instead so I glued/screwed a secondary panel over that in order to spread the load .
Mine is in a new build, with sockets way up the wall, because it also has a currently covered over zone for a fireplace.
So to cover sockets I need a big TV, but still a bit too high up wall.
Plus lower down where I’d prefer TV, might be a void/cavity.
Finally not sure if cables just hang with lots of spare so I can reposition.
If they come down from top I can’t extend them so it’ll need a plate on wall (afaik to regs) which still looks crap.
If I could find the kind of trade who’d know and do it right I’d pay them, but I think it’s mostly a case of just making holes and seeing haha.

A TV with its own speakers will not provide ATMOS output. You need a sound bar attached through the e-arc output of the TV. The thing about ATMOS is the content. There is ATMOS content on Netflix if you susbribe to the premium subscription, a few shows on Amazon Prime and some through your digital box, such as BT Sport Ultimate on Virgin. Not all Virgin boxes will pass ATMOS to the TV, but the built in apps on the TV work ok.
Ah ok so ATMOS isn’t native to the telly speaker hardware, it just supports it to a bar output.
I assume then that the telly hardware is just stereo or 2.1 type setup?
But decent enough… not purposely under-specced so you buy a sound bar?
S1962a mentioned they had the 77” and it was good audio. But the 55” may not be?
I may have to drag myself to Richer Sounds in Leeds to make the final choice… I could also pester them about my mounting malady.

My suggestion is that if you are asking the question, then it's likely to be absolutely fine for you.
Will an external soundbar/surround system be objectively better? Probably.
Will the built-in sound be perfectly adequate for most people? Yes.
Of course lots of people like spending money on equipment and taking hours to set things up just the way they like - and that's great. But as above, if you're wondering whether it will be good enough for you the answer is likely to be 'yes'.
Plus it is always best to actually get the TV and listen to it before you decide one way or the other.

By definition the extremely slim build of today's TV's doesn't leave much room for speakers.
Adding a half decent soundbar can transform the overall experience.
And it's not hard; it can be wall mounted under the TV or hung from it.
I went with a Sonos Arc and already had a sub to link to my LG TV. The sound is very good. But as I mentioned above, you need content. The other thing was, I have my TV in the corner of a room, so in the end I bought a TV stand from Germany that was a pedestal affair with a rack for the sound bar below the TV. The standard LG TV stand that comes with the TV doesn't raise the TV enough if on a cabinet to place a sound bar with upward firing speakers in front of it.
It’s a shame the more expensive models don’t have decent enough speakers really.
The sound bars are just as wide as the TV.
I’ll accept they might be better etc, but they look a real dogs dinner wall mounted, having looked at some images via Google search.
Mounts. Wires. Sticking out. Too close to telly and it’s like a fat lip.
Generally looks like you care about TV more than a layman, which I don’t think is nice either.
For all I know the model I’ve seen will be good enough.
I’m assuming no models exist with genuinely great internal speakers any more?

I’ve had an amp and two decent floor standers before but generally I don’t watch tv like that any more.
I’ll assume speakers in decent TVs haven’t become worse over the last 10-15 years due to the proliferation of sound bar use… and expect I’ll be happy with it.
After-all if I’m unlikely to find better in a tv then no option any way.
It’s a shame the sound bars didn’t integrate more nicely with the lower edge of tellys so they looked all of a piece and discreet rather than another discrete chunk of black with wires hanging around.

If you install them correctly you won't see any cabling. If you buy one carefully you can get one the same width as your TV which looks quite smart to my eyes anyway. I've had this for a couple of weeks www.cramptonandmoore.co.uk/samsung-qe55qn700a-55-n...
One of the reasons i got it was most of the hardware is in the "one connect" box so just one small cable to the TV. Also it has Q Symphony audio which when combined with their sound bar (has to be a QA series) it can utilise the 6 speakers on the TV with the soundbar and woofer - all wireless.
Sound is superb and will be even better later today when my 2 x rear speakers arrive - also wireless.

yeah the tv speakers are re-enforcing then so are of use
im same as you except mines a 55q9fn (so i don't get the symphony feature) with the q900 soundbar and its pretty wire free except where i havent tidied them too neatly behind my xbox etc
it sounds great though very punch and honesty i cant get it turned up past about 20 it makes things on the window sill resonate
