Aygo 2014 - higher normal revs when accelerating in 3rd 4th

Aygo 2014.

I've just had my exhaust box and pipe replaced.

Had the car for about 6 years, it might be just something that's changed with my driving style, but....

When I'm accelerating (mainly 3rd and 4th) the car now seems prefer reving harder than transfering the power to wheels and accelerate. Just before I'm wanting to change up to the next gear it feels as though the reving has stopped and the power is being applied to the road.

It's as if I'm riding the clutch when accelerating just after changing up, but I am most certainly not.

Any ideas what the problem could be ?

From what you describe it sounds like the clutch is slipping, hence the revs being higher than usual as the clutch isn't able to transmit the engine power any more. The fix is to replace the clutch as it is worn out.

How much would it roughly cost at a backstreet garage to replace a clutch?

What would be a good brand of clutch to buy?

Is continueing to drive it going to cause and damage to the vehicle? I.e. do I need to rush to get it fixed as it's not too bad at the moment?

It will continue to deteriorate. How quickly depends on how you drive. Obviously acceleration will hasten it. Eventually the vehicle will be immobile.

if you continue to drive it, eventually you could score the flywheel, which will cause you extra expense.

3 years ago family member was quoted some £700 at the Toyota dealer, our local indy we use regularly did the job for £280 all incl with a Sachs clutch kit.

Let the garage supply the clutch then they are responsible for the warranty on it


If you supply it and it's faulty you have to reclaim the Costa from the manufacturer

^^^^For that reason you may find some garages won't fit a clutch supplied by you.

If a fault does develop then they could be stuck with your partially dismantled car on a ramp whilst you sort out the warranty replacement with whoever you bought it from preventing them from getting on with their normal business.
