Flightradar looks pretty normal at the moment. Busyish, but maybe you've just got used to low numbers.

Lots over West of Reading too. Seem to be practicing aerobatics. We are plagued with them in the summer.

Heathrow arrivals are approaching from the West today which would make the traffic more noticeable. I think they approach from the East about 4 days out of 5, someone will know the exact proportion. Even when the wind is from the East they sometimes land that way if it isn't too strong.

Baggage reclaim issues at Heathrow today. No idea if connected to the sightings of aircraft over Reading though.

Not. It was explained in the previous post. Easterly wind means planes lining up to land from the west. This means some of them flying over Reading.

Irrelevant anecdote alert!

Sometime in the early 1960s I was with my Mum shopping in Kingston, Surrey. We'd just left Bentalls and heard someone say, "What's all that then?"

They were looking up and in the sky were what seemed like dozens of vapour trails, circling around, criss-crossing and heading in all directions.

One old chap got really agitated and shouted, "The balloon's gone up!, the balloon's gone up!" and people were starting to get quite worried.

It turned out to be a rehearsal for the Farnborough Air Show. laugh
