100 ron petrol???

hello im presently in germany and have noticed its not that easy to get 98 ron........95 no prob even 97 some places but i put 100 ron in the other day instead of the 95 they had....it was very expensive and just wondered if anyone had any idea how this will affect the car.are there any adverse effects....it looks like it is geared towards the high performance cars!! rob

As far as I'm aware its what we've been gagging to have over here for ages, the 97/8RON is a minumum figure, not the only figure for octange rating. Isnt 100RON the rating of the old 5star, so long as its unleaded you'll be fine.

I'm willing ot be corrected if im talking out of my arse.

At Silverstone the TOTAL garage there sells "Unleaded Racing Fuel" - which is, apparently, 100RON. 1.85 a litre!

Whilst I was filling the car with 95RON to go do a few more laps a chap with a GT3 stuck £50 worth of it into his motor. Seemed to be going well when I got back out on track.

Can't be bad!

To tell the truth, my car seems pretty happy whether it's got 95, 97 or 98 in it. Only place I reckon you'd notice the difference is on a track.

For commuting I fill up with 95, for going for a blast around the countryside I put 98 in!!

Use race gas quite a bit in the Chim (no lamba sensors though)without any probs.

Eddited to add,What you pay 1.85p a litre for race gas,77p@ltr race gas and 55p@ltr for 97 in petrolhead friendly NZ.

But the cost of going down south and filling up and then coming back more than exceeds the savings....

I think the car has to be set up for the fuel used. So if you have a car set up to use 95RON fuel, anything above is fine but wasted. But if your cars set up to use 98RON fuel (as mine is) anything below could cause some damage and pinking. So sticking 100RON fuel in a car set up for 95RON would just be a waste of money.
