Premium brand toasters - are they worth it?

Due to the demise of yet another bread torching device I am given cause to ask: are they all cr@p or is there one that actually works out there somewhere?
I like an over-engineered product as much as the next bloke but is toasting one of those areas in life where it's necessary to resign oneself to inevitable product disappointment?
To summarise; do I look at a Dualit, Kitchen-Aid, or something of that ilk, or just go for a rep-spec item? :scratchchin:

Bought one of these 4-slice Tefal Avanti Elite jobbies from CostCo recently to replace an older 2-slice Tefal Avanti that has given us years of service and is still going strong. We just needed a 4-slice, that's all.
The RRP is £69.99 but it was £39.99 at CostCo.
Has a digital countdown to when it is going to pop up. Geek city.

Expensive toasters have a more advanced calculator(e.g. when starting up from cold a good toaster will delay the first round because it takes a while to get the elements up to speed. Normal toasters pop-up based on a time limit with no temperature referencing, so the first round always comes out lighter than the rest).
They also warm up a lot quicker, are much hotter and have easy ways of cleaning crumbs from the base.
And they look better.

Also available from Robert Dyas for the same price. We got one at the weekend and well worth every penny.

I agree whole heartedly with the above comments. I thought that £135 for a toaster was madness, but changed my mind when I finally had more money than sense and bought one. toast is evenly browned and seems to be hot all the way through. Use Warbertons Super Toasty bread in it for best results. The toasty accessory is well worth the extra £12

Family of 4, 20 yrs use, 3.6p per person per week.
Now, since it would live in unabashed full view on a black granite worktop, coloured ends (metallic charcoal?) or plain polished stainless - which do add about £25, it seems, but have little associated cost justification.
