Well maybe a little early but info and rumours already surfacing ....
I have to say my upgrade from a vanilla 6 to a 13 Pro Max has been a bit of a revelation with the phone even replacing my walk around Sony RX100.
You only live once and I will certainty consider a 14 Pro Max if there is a significant change in the camera but would definitely up the memory to 512 or even 1Tb from the current 256.

I’ve always seemed to hit the ‘in between’ model where changes are less significant - I last upgraded to an 11 pro 6 months before the 12 came out.
This time I’ve gone onto a rolling sim only deal and will pick up a 14 at launch or around christmas. Looking forward to seeing what it brings, but the 11’s been everything it needs to be.

I’ve got an old 5SE and didn’t want to buy anything much bigger.
The 13 mini would be a no brainer for me but the whole swap for chargers and headphones has put me off.
Then I saw the pro has LiDAR and the uses for my hobby/pro work are really appealing.
And the cameras on the pro are also something I’d use a bit for hobbies/work more too.
I’m now very tempted by a 13 pro.
I just wish they’d make it in a mini size.
14 pro mini please! I really really would love to not have a brick in my pocket.

You do get an adapter to plug in wired headphones if you wish to keep using them. They still use the lightning cable to charge, although every year I pray for USB-C.The 13 mini would be a no brainer for me but the whole swap for chargers and headphones has put me off.

There are strong rumours Apple are no longer going to be releasing mini phones due to poor sales, so the 13 mini is the probably going to be the apogee of mini phones in that respect.
Apple stopped doing small phones years ago any way, only the legacy 5SE/iPhone5 really was a high end small model.
The recent small models have been a bit sub-spec so maybe a factor for why they didn’t sell well. Ie the new SE was a bit smaller but basic.
I’d buy a 13 mini pro today if they did one.
Admit they may not be popular being small for people who spend a lot of time on one.
I’m getting to the point again of just having an old basic small mobile for taking around and then just having an iPad or similar at home.
I actually find I do more productive stuff if I go sit at a computer.
It’ll be interesting where we are in 5-10 years.

Small form is important for me, went from an old SE/5 to a newer SE, just about as big as I'd want, hopefully they will keep making the 'mini' phones. I think it's a bit of an age thing, most of my older friends/family prefer the smaller phones, fits into the pocket easily etc. Most don't spend hours watching TV on them etc. 90% of my surfing and work is done on my Mac.

I am absolutely pig sick of my 12mini
Battery life is shocking
It’s (max.) 10mths old and the battery is already at just 87%
I’ll probably pick up a 13 Pro Max this week as it’s really starting to annoy me
I certainly can’t hold onto it for a further 6mths to wait for the 14

That is bad! I’m at 89% after 27 months on a 11 pro, used an average of 7 hours per day and left on charge overnight.

If battery life is the only problem, why not get a battery pack / batter case cover?
I don't use a case at all (other than a quad lock when on the bike) - I debated on the £99 Apple battery extension (and also the £50 Anker version) but aside from it being ugly it doesn't change the rapidly degrading built in battery.Mr Whippy said:

Que? You can still buy an iPhone 13 Mini today. Spec is pretty much the same as the normal iPhone 13, only real differences are screen size and battery capacity. The recent small models have been a bit sub-spec so maybe a factor for why they didn’t sell well. We stopped offering them to staff after complaints about battery capacity, the smaller battery starts out barely adequate and when it degrades a bit after ~12 months then it really needs a top-up to manage a day of use.
Regarding the 14, I switched to a 13 Pro Max from an 11 Pro and this was genuinely the first time I genuinely didn't feel I needed an new phone after two years, the 11 Pro was excellent, even its battery life remained good and if I wasn't getting a new work phone anyway I would have been happy to keep it.
Switching back to using it now (my son inherited it) I can detect some slight degraded performance compared to the 13, but this may be due at least in part to the higher refresh rate of the Pro's screen.
What I'm getting at is that anyone with a 11 Pro or newer is really unlikely to notice any significant upgrade with a 14...unless Apple do something radical.

My old X's battery started to swell at the tail end of last year, so I got an iFixit kit and replaced it, but thought better to keep it as a spare and use my missus old XS due to gaskets, seals and me losing a screw in it.
Over the years, up until I had the X, I used to upgrade every couple of years, but as time wore on they felt like quite small changes, so I stopped at the XS. I might have a look at the 14 when it arrives, as this should be a much bigger leap and much better.
I had the same with the Apple watch, I had a 2nd gen which worked fine until recently the battery started playing up, so replaced it with a 7... and because of the jump it feels like a proper worthwhile change.

I try to keep it to every 4 years - it makes the cost more acceptable. It's working so far - WFH during Covid has meant that my XS that's now 3.5 years old still has 80% battery health.
I think the camera improvements that have come along since the XS will be enough to convince me to upgrade when the 14 comes out.

I've got an X, and had it just over 4 years (though triggers broom, as I've prob had a couple of replacements during that time on insurance) - I was thinking (mostly thanks to their catchy ad) about getting the 13 mini as its a nice looking size - would it be a noticeable upgrade do we think? I know the X was quite far ahead of its time - I don't really see what massive difference the pro brings unless you want a big screen (I don't)...?

Yep me too - always in-between models. I did get bored and jumped to the iPhone 13Pro and I can't honestly see me buying a 14 as the improvements will, most likely, be minimal. I think the pro line has a better camera too, the normal 13 pro is the same size as the normal 13. The max is the larger one, although that is only available in pro version. I think! It used to be so easy

I had enough of mine, the battery wouldn’t last a day, I traded it in for a 13. I wish I’d got a pro instead though so I can see myself trading the 13 in for a 14 pro! Battery life is shocking
