Vanquish market & prices

Hello,

I have been following a 2004 Daytona Nero Vanquish at Aston Martin Works for a while. It has not sold and they reduced the price to £75k. Does anyone know this car and why it has not sold? What do you think the car is worth?

I think the Vanquish has gone through a period of being unloved/overlooked. Prices really softened over the last few years. I've been following a Vanquish S with the factory manual conversion which has been for sale for 2 1/2 years. It still hasn't sold and the asking price has come down at least 40k pounds during that time. I assume quite a few people are put off (rightly or wrongly) by the perceived weakness of the flappy paddle gearbox (ditto weak prices for the Ferrari 575). Hagerty pricing (albeit their US version) shows a pretty steep decline in pricing over the last 5 years but a bottoming out over the last year, and even a small increase over the last year for the non-S version. Interesting that the pricing recovery on the non-S is doing a bit better than the S. Presumably the "premium" for the S (promoted on the basis it is the "much better car") may be narrowing slightly. I don't know if UK prices have performed similarly over the same 5 year period but can't imagine the trends would have been much different. Looking at Collecting Cars results over the last year or so would suggest "private sale" prices somewhere in the mid to upper 50s for the non-S (there was an outlier that hammered at 77k, but that had only 2k miles) and 80-90k for the S. So add in 10-20k for the dealer uplift and your AM Works car doesn't look particularly overpriced and one would hope AM Works wouldn't be selling a lemon. Bamford Rose's most recent market review video suggested 65k and up for a non-S and 90-100k for a decent S. As I say, maybe the car just has not been flavour of the month for some time and people are too busy getting excited over Porsche 911s....or perhaps people are worried that shortly after buying their 70k car they will find themselves on the wrong end of a 20k repair bill. The Vanquish is certainly a blast to drive, though my one outing at the wheel of a friend's car did result in a transmission-related "failure to progress". I see from your profile you may be based in Scotland. It looks like Derek Mowat in Edinburgh is offering a 2 owner 21k mile Vanquish S for 99k (and a 17k mile non-S for 77k) so might be worth a visit....

I had a 1500 mile S manual. The pro points are; it looked fantastic and the manual gear change. The negative points are unfortunately everything else! Running costs, wobbly drive, awful interior (Ford Puma steering wheel), the ignition key hits your knee, limited choice of modern tyres

I love mine , warts and all .

It really depends what you what from a car - it is an awesome GT car but also very accomplished on our bumpy roads .And faster than you'd expect
They need to be used so I'd be nervous about buying a really low mileage car if you want to drive it . Round town they are not brilliant as they are very high geared .
Regarding the interiors - I've never had a Volvo or a Puma so that doesn't worries me lol. They are 20 years old so dust off your cassettes and CD's .

The Works car interior I'm sure would put a lot of people off. Cars that I saw advertised when I bought mine a year ago are still for sale .

If you are waiting for the prices to bottom out , then you'll have to be lucky to call that .

I would recommend getting any car you consider inspected by "Mr Vanquish"

Thank you for your replies. I am not knew to Aston's. I owned a DB9 and Rapide S. The Rapide S was an aamzing car and criminally overlooked. However I have always like the Vanquish. I can not explain why. Maybe it is just the looks. When I see them in showrroms next to other Aston's they always look better and still contemporary. The interior does not bother me. I just would like to buy a sorted car and any maintenance does not all fail at once lol.

This is a timely subject as Bonhams have just released the catalogue for the Easter members meeting auction at Goodwood. This includes an apparently unused Vanquish S Ultimate, listed without reserve, and estimated at 50-80k. This is a far cry from the usual 150k, asking (or 300k if you happen to have car No 50).
It is apparent that this comes from that Middle Eastern collection of Aston Martins that have been off-loaded piecemeal in every car auction for the last couple of years. For some reason this collector threw away the history files and documents for all his cars (as you do). Auction companies seem to get further and further from full disclosure on where these cars come from. "On static display" is the current Bonhams euphemism.
Anyhow, back on topic, I have had my Vanquish S for about 10 years now and I seem to like it more and more as time goes on. For me it is a perfect GT (stop-start traffic uphill excepted). I have mine looked after by one of the few independents who understand the car and I am sure that is the way to go with this model more than most.
