I have some mid 90's computer bits 'n pieces to dispose of and I've searched for FB groups but not found any!?

Can anybody recommend any good, active Facebook (vintage) computer groups?

Thanks.

It would have helped had I mentioned that!

It's for PC hardware and software, software is a combo of Linux and Windows stuff.

Try this one and mention you are in the UK otherwise you'll get people asking for shipping to America.

Software I'm not sure there's much of a market for, hardware can still get people interested as it can be repurposed for many things.
Otherwise I've seen plenty of properly old 90s/2000s hardware being advertised on Facebook Marketplace, bit niche though.

Thanks for that.

Not expecting a great deal of interest in any of it to be honest, but if I can recycle it rather than binning it I'll be happy.

I’ve got a P3 450mhz with 128mb ram.

It was mine from new. Then my brother. Then my Dad. Then he had it in his loft.
Then I recovered it when my Dad died.

It’s now in my loft, ready to be brought back to its full beige glory and stick Windows 2000 on it.

I’m sure it’ll need bits and pieces to get it working as required.

ATA hdd, an AGP graphics card, etc… you forget that all this stuff is now vintage, and probably increasingly hard to get hold of!

Most of the time, all that's required is for the RAM to be cleaned and reseated, reseat CPU with fresh heatsink paste, full vacuum of dust and away they go.

Poor contact issues with RAM are often caused by people who touched the gold contacts during installation, which is the start of a gradual decay process.

The biggest issue I've found with older units, is usually power supply failure. The power supplies didn't seem to be anywhere near as reliable as they are today.

I came in here earlier to see what vintage stuff the OP had, but then I read "90s" - a chap I used to work with was interested in stuff like Altair and similar from the late 70s so I wondered if that's where it was going.

I do have a bit of "new old stock" memory from around the Pentium / P2 days, I must see if there's any interest in it at some point. I'll have a look in the group linked, that might be a good pointer, cheers.

@droopsnoot- I guess 90's is not that 'vintage' however in computer terms is positively archaic lol.

But yes - I get your point about the really old stuff, Ohio Scientific (IIRC?) was a popular one in the electronics mags from the 70's.

Huge boards that yielded 16kb of RAM lol.

Yes, I remember populating boards with a load of individual RAM chips and ending up with something like 1Mb of RAM, or an error when I got one of the chip legs hanging outside the socket. Probably still got some, somewhere. Talking of the era of Ohio Scientific, I definitely have my old Compukit UK101 that I bought used from someone in school, which I believe is a clone of the Ohio Superboard.
