First world problems ...

My 2 smallest kids like to use their iPads in the car

I have an iPhone and my personal hotspot is setup with family sharing set to automatic

In theory it should be easy enough as I've taught them how to connect

In practice, it takes umpteen attempts switching on and off the hotspot and wi-fi on the iPads to get it all to work. The hotspot doesn't show up, it fails to connect, one does and the other doesn't etc etc

(My Audi has in built wi-fi, but you can only use their provider and it's eleventy billion pounds per Gb of data)

Is there an easier option? A router with a data only SIM or something? That just works? SSID set the same as the house or something?

Yes... A data only SIM and a little Mi-fi, is all you need. smile

The Mi-fi should only be about £20.

I use a TP Link mifi router for when I’m away from home or at our holiday Lodge.

Easily streams Netfix etc.

For a sim I have normal sim (not data specific) from Talkmobile with 100Gb data allowance for £10 / month.

I have a Huawei wifi unit velcroed in to the back of the car and charges on the USB. Can be taken out if need be, works for in car services and phones etc if joined to it and allows my cameras to be remotely accessed.

You can get ones without the battery element I guess and that way it just powers on when the ignition is on. I have a Voda unlimited data SIM in mine.

- Set up Family Sharing with the kids as members of your family
- Open Settings on your iPhone and go into Personal Hotspot; you will see a Family Sharing option there – set it to automatic
- They can then connect from the Wifi Settings menu to your hotspot, no interaction needed 😊
