eBay scam - BEWARE!

A warning to anyone who has an eBay account. Keep an eye out as when I tried to log into mine today, someone had changed the password and the email account that received any information from eBay.

Luckily they have an excellent "Instant Message to Support" type function and they reset my account immediately.

Keep an eye out for these scammers...

Are you sure it was the genuine e-bay you were logging onto? Another scam is to get you too log into a spoof e-bay site which tells you your account is suspended etc, they then ask for your genuine info in order to 'reset' your account.
Now they have your login details to access your genuine e-bay account!

I'm not saying this is what's happened - but worth a quick thought

Indeed.

Only ever log into eBay and PayPal (or your banking site, or whatever) by using their published root URL ie. www.ebay.co.uk, https://www.paypal.co.uk (note https) etc.

Never log in via a URL sent to you in an email, however official and creditable it looks.

Edit: Ted's code still doesn't handle https properly, but you get the idea.

Oddly enough, I didn't have any phishing emails, and I didn't follow any links from dodgy places. I'm pretty net-savvy, so that sort of thing always rings alarm bells. Also only ever long on through the official site.

My only thought is virus/spyware.
