Was initially in market for a m4, heart was set on a cab if I’m honest as I miss my e93 dearly. I’ve come across a m2 seems clean, 1 owner and sensible mileage. As much as I love the exterior on the m2 is it just me but the interior is garbage lol I’m yet to view as I’ve never been in a m2 so who knows, it just looks very basic and cheap. I know it will give me a barell of laughs though, just doesn’t seem as grown up as the m4. But I like the fact it’s a lot rarer, I probably see an m2 once a week if that, m4s probably daily. Would I regret going for an m2? Any previous owners or someone who’s experienced both. Also huge factor but which do you think will hold there value better, logic tells me m2 due to it being less common

Any thoughts appreciated

If you are already not happy with the interior I doubt your view on it is going to improve over time, I have a M240i which is fairly similar interior wise and it does suffer from the odd rattle occasioinally, it's not M4 quality interior but I find it more than acceptable personally.

Surely buying the M4 is the better option?
It's a bigger car - nicer interior, better stereo, and the S55 engine
The M2 I imagine would be more of a "hoot"

Likewise residuals are all over the shop anyway

If you want a rare car, buy a Datsun 120Y smile

Totally agree the m4 certainly ticks a lot more boxes it’s more grown up imo. I’ve had a itch for one ever since Release and always said one day I’ll get it. Funny how things work up I own a m2 now smile I take back the comment that the interior is a horrible place to be that was me simply going by pics and vids I’ve seen it’s actually quite a nice place to be, not m4 or Mercedes’ and Audi level but it’s not a Ford Focus either lol I still will have the thought in my head what if I went m4 I know I will but the fact the m2 is rarer makes it abit more special to me

I was considering similar and the M4 is a nicer place to be than the M2 and M2 comp, comes with adaptive dampers etc whereas the M2 doesn't. I could have been tempted by the M2 Comp but they were more money and with for the same budget, I think the M4 was nicer than the original M2 and I was very happy with it, lovely car.

I'd go for the M car with an M engine and M interior.

If noise is important to you, then the N55 in the M2 sounds a lot better than the S55 in the M4 I reckon. The M4 feels like a big car, whereas the M2 is a nice size I think.

I guess you wouldn't consider the 1M as a proper M car either then?

To me the N55 in the M2 sounds more M than the M engine even if the S55 is stronger. (it also means another 55kgs compared to the N55).

Agreed, the N55 is the M2 sounds bloody cracking to my ears. The S55 is either just noise in pre PPF cars or just a bit meh in the later cars.

It certainly feels and sounds like an M there’s no denying it, inside the cabin though it doesn’t feel like an M. Maybe I’m just too snobby lol even exterior wise now that I’m half used to it almost feels and gives me the feeling it’s a m240i not a full fat M as such. I don’t know, hard to explain it. It’s a barell of laughs though which is what I missed with my golf R before it, but honesty felt like that had more kit on it inside lol

^ yes sure the interior is hardly improved compared to a M240i, but that's not a bad interior in the first place. The M3/M4 interior is better finished and more spacious and the seats are nicer to look at (but no more supportive or comfy when the lumbar support option has been ticked on the M2).

I don’t know half feel cheated with the m2 lol when I block out all the snobby side of things and all the toys it does all make sense to me and it is worthy of the m badge imo. I got the ocean blue so it gets stares everywhere she goes, it’s certainly a lot rarer then the white and black m4s you see every turn you take lol. To be fair all the snobby bits do get boring after a while anyway and I don’t use half the kit as it is, just nice to have though. My m2 does come with the lumber supports but not fully electric which again makes me think meh it’s a M it should be standard lol

I came from an M135i LCI which was compromised but great fun in the right conditions to a 540i. The interior was never an issue before but after having the 5 series, I don't think I could go with an M2 even if deep down, it will be the more fun car. I did look at an F80 M3 Comp a few weeks back and nearly signed up. The interior is nice enough to live with if not quite 5 series standards. The dilemma for me was more that I love the xDrive system on mine and I wasn't sure I wanted to go back to a big power RWD car for what is essentially an every day car rather than a fun weekend car.

Like others suggest, I'd say the M4 is the way to go.

For me it was all about getting something fun and more of a weekend car as I have an economical daily. So I was leaning towards a m4 cab, simply just to enjoy a car on the weekends or everytime I felt like a nice drive. I lacked that in my golf R, which is why I returned back to RWD BMWs. I wouldn’t say the m2 is any quicker then my stage 1 R was, the power seems similar but driver feel and involvement the m2 takes it so I got what I wanted. In all fairness a m4 cab would just be heavy and lazy tbh but the cab element would make up for it and add to it being more special. Can’t help but feel like for the money the m2 should offer a lot more, still a cracking little machine though, I’m generally don’t like paddle shifts seems abit gimmicky to me even in my golf, it all makes sense in the m2 though smile

I kind of get the criticism of the early M2 interior, but I personally don’t really mind it. I quite liked my M140i.

The ‘leather’ was a bit crap feeling, but it was well enough made with a good seating position. I’m in the minority because I liked the LCI2 dials. Stuff like seats can be changed easily enough.
