Metal detectors- advice please
Discussion
If there are experienced metal detectorists out there, could you recommend one or two good mid- range detectors, please?
There is a bewildering amount out there, and I have a strong suspicion that the 'best buy' sites on the web are not independent or impartial!
I am more interested in archaeological finds, and working with archaeologists than 'treasure hunting'.
Thanks.

What is your budget? A Garrett Ace 250 is a good starter detector that will last you for years.and will cost about £225. There are more expensive Garrett detectors available if your budget is bigger. If you're happy to spend a bit more look at Minelab and Deus.
A brand that I was previously unaware of but which look good on paper is Dr Otek. Slightly cheaper than the Garrett but looks like it would have similar performance.
You'll also need a pinpointer which will be another £90 - £150.

I'm a mere starter, so can't provide any 'good' advice, but I have a Garrett Ace 400i - has found a few old coins in my garden and plenty of old nails, screws, padlocks, hinges etc. I bought a cheapy pinpointer to go with it - one of these - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/274793637073 it beeps when near to metal (also used to find nails/screws in walls etc) so it seems to do what it's supposed to.
