Hopefully something easy to answer??

Say in a previous year you earned enough to lose your tax free allowance (let’s say 125k) so tax code reduced to basically zero.

Let’s say you have carry forward allowance available.

If you used the carry forward to pay enough into pension for that year that basically brought your taxable earnings under 100k would you get your tax free allowance back and therefor a rebate of 12k on top of the pension payment tax rebate for a higher rate tax payer?

Hope it makes sense.

Cheers

No.

You must make pension contributions during the tax year you want them to have an effect on your earnings. Whilst you may be able to carry forward you won't get back a previous year's personal allowance. Too late...

Thanks, luckily this is forward planning so not lost anything yet :-) but I will be planning on utilising carry forward in the future as earnings can be all over the place.

Thanks
