I've just moved into a new house and the terrestrial ariel's not working, and as it's 3 stories I can't find anyone who can come and fix it due to various insurance and short ladder issues.

I've found I can get a TV signal through the previous owners NTL terminal. Does anyone know if this is just an analogue signal, or if it's digital and so all freeview channels can be received through it?

pretty certain it is analogue as you will need a decoder for digital signal

Cable has analogue, digital, phone and broadband on the same piece of cable. It's all seperated in the same way stations on a radio are (basically!)

Unfortunatly, the analogue portion of it hasn't got the same content as an ariel signal has I believe. NTL will chuck down whatever they feel like.

A friends flat I stay in when I'm in London has a cable connection, and being that he has a half decent TV (older Sony Vega) it's able to decode some of the channels, but not all of them. So he gets BBC1+2, ITV1, Ch4, Ch5, Sky News, Sky1, Paramount, Eurosport, Living, Challenge, News24, National Geographic and QVC, all with no decoder box.

He is on telewest though, but the principle should be the same. Basically, his TV is decoding the signals they still put down the cable meant for old analogue cable boxes (which will be turned off in a few years!!)

edited to add, his TV isn't digital in anyway, it can't decode freeview.
