Hi Folks

My wifes company car is up for renewal and along with subsidies we have a shortlist below....

What would you choose from these & why...

bear in mind its for my wife & her prioirity is not flat out speed, but also looks & she travels maybe 14K PA for business :

Mini Cooper 1.6
Honda Civic 1.6SE Sport or Exec
Vaux Astra 1.8i, 2.0Turbo or 2.2 in SRi or Elegance
Vaux Astra Coupe 1.8i
Vaux Vectra 1.8i or 2.2i in SRi or Elegance
VW Golf 2.0 Gti (the 115hp)
VW Bora 1.8T S or 2.0 SE
VW Passat 1.8T or 2.0 SE

Please let me know your thoughts... we are going to the motor show so she can see my shortlist in the flesh.

Thanks in advance

of those choices - I 'd get the golf Gti - the others are a little how shall I say ... too normal
the gti is very well put together and a stylish car
the new vectra has a boot shaped like a slapped ar*e

if there was an alfa 147 on the list - i'd get that !

The Cooper for looks and 'style', but I found it very slow. Foot to the floor in 5th up a slight hill, and it wouldn't accelerate from 75 mph. At all. Could make motorway journeys tedious.

The Passat 1.8T - a reasonable looking car and the engine is a bit of a peach. Audi build-quality and reliability as well.

Go for one of the Astras – the 2.2 or the Turbo. No ball of fire, but quicker than anything else on the list, and pleasant to drive. Honestly, you'd never believe a Vauxhall could have such good steering feedback. Got a quality, almost Germanic, feel to them, too. Do look a bit dull, but far prettier than a Golf or huge Mini, IMO.

Golf TDI PD150, same money, performance and spec as the GTI but a much lower tax bill ! I can't see why anyone would go for the petrol over this as a company car you're just allowing Gordon Brown to rape you more than is absolutley necessary. Now as a personal car thats a different story

Mel - thanks for that, i had a similar thought but the price is far more expensive through the lease company & we wont be taxed as a co car so that doesnt matter.

I'm worried the Golf Gti is really slow tho !

How about the Astra Coupe 1.8i ? looks better than an astra and is respectable....I'm just not a Vauxhall fan really.
