The pump, in the boot so high pressure, stopped pumping, I took it apart, cleaned the points and adjusted it to wat the internet says it the right settings for the gap and flip over point (screwing the diaphram/centre rod up and down), it now runs & pumps, the car runs but the pump never stops.

Any ideas? Thanks

It should be running all the time the engine is running (faster or slower as required), or do you mean it runs when the engine is switched off as well?

They should only tick occasionally in something like a mini but from experience continually in an early Range Rover!

It should tick now and then when it needs to pump some fuel through, that's what it did before it stopped working altogether.

It now runs all the time the ignition is on.

If there’s a slight leak on the inlet side, it might not leak fuel, but pull air in

Sounds very odd to me. My guess is the pump pressurises the fuel line but fuel then leaks back through the pump, pressure drops and it clicks again - so something amiss with that refurb job.
