My mother has a cheapskate friend. Who buys really awful, to the point of insulting presents, despite my mum reciprocating and putting effort/ money in, when it is her turn.
For her 70th Birthday, this piece of card in a frame, was supposedly sourced from the middle East and my mother was told that symbol is her name, by the friend.
I simply did not believe this and the power of pistonheads has proved me correct, the story above is a load of...
Was probably picked up in a charity shop bargain bin for 20p.
My mother is livid...
Before anyone comments it is the thought that counts...other gifts have included regifts of Christmas presents that were gifted the year before and a 99p short-dated pack of Lidl brioche with choc chips.

I think it is the bare faced lies that angered her the most.She has vouched to buy a gift of equal value/ thoughtlessness in return...however, I know full well that she will end up going to M&S and buy something nice.

Aside from being indestructible, I can read Arabic. Long story. Calligraphy can sometimes be tricky to decipher, but as a very quick lesson in reading some Arabic:
ا - written alone like this is the generic root for a as in 'can', i as in 'hit' and u as in 'full'.
There is no official e as in 'hello' in Arabic so unless you're fairly adept to know how a word is read and pronounced, you'd usually expect a vowel symbol: َ a ِ i and ُ u.
ء is a glottal stop.
Usually you add it to ا you can get أ as in 'actually', إ as in 'instant'. However, 'oompaloompah' would start with اُ.
Here you can pick out the ا and read ماريا despite the loopy treble clef ا

ا Ah
Notice also the symbols َ (a) and ِ (i) denoting the vowels between the letters.
The ا above the ر is a way of denoting an upwards slightly elongated aaah.
